Old husbands don't tell tales.

[quote=E.L.. Shapiro]Interesting! Amateur radio, in actual practice. is governed by the governmental communication authorities (such as the F.C.C. in the U.S. and the D.O.C. in Canada) in each country where amateurs are licensed and there are radio procedures that must be adhered to. Besides there is a certain kida unwritten self policing philosophy and code of conduct that most likely spills into their clubs and online activities even whe the are off the air. I was an active amatur for years and never experience any kind of rudeness or or off the air. Seems that indecorous behavior is simply not tolerated certain circles.

I realize that there is a risk here of further hijacking this discussion, but would like to observe that in my experience, members of amateur radio groups and model railroad/rail history/railfan groups tend to very much be "no stripes" people. It is almost a defining characteristic of both groups. Barry Goldwater was a noted radio amateur who would always simply introduce himself as "Hi. I'm Barry, K7UGA" to other amateurs, whether they realized who he was or not. He actively sought out and participated in amateur group activities. One railroad group that I am a member of includes a well known actor, very high level business executives, and others whose background would surprise you if you could learn about them. But at our gatherings, they are simply nonassuming, approachable, interesting folks like (hopefully) the rest of the folks there sharing a common interest, many of whom are from much more modest backgrounds. There are, of course, a few exceptions, but by and large those are the outliers.

If you're going to use the Qs, consider "QLF?". I always considered it somewhat rude, although it's probably obsolete these days.

The Olympus 14-54 f2.8/3.5. You must have both the lens and body dry before changing lenses out. Other than that, one just washes the salt spray/splashes, dust, sand, dirt, snow, and dirty water off under a gentlely running faucet. Of course it is not recommended by Olympus (damp washcloth is recommended), but anyone that I know uses the faucet method. I have even seen videos where the water wasn't gentle and way longer than I rinse my camera and it kept right on shooting. A gentle faucet is much closer to gentle rain than a hard running faucet or shower head. The Olympus made my former E-M5 and present E-M1 mrII splashproof. I have been cleaning them this way ever since I discovered one could starting with my former E-M5.

It's not the wash and rinse cycles, it's how you dry it.

Some of these young 'uns use a dryer (gas or electric, though?) on gentle cycle. Don't do that unless you're in a tough neighborhood where the wind might blow it off the clothesline. I'm old fashioned - I hang mine out on the clothesline to dry, or put them on an indoor clothes rack in front of the fireplace.

Haven't used it much since about 1989, when my wife pulled my tower over with the tractor. Accidentally, of course.
I have a slight hearing problem, so I was better on CW than phone.

Hope you get back on the air! My tower is up (been back up about a week), but the recent heavy snow and ice has my tribander at a very strange angle, so now I have to tilt it down again (I’m way too old to climb towers). I have a hearing problem as well, but I have a Bluetooth link from my hearing aids to my radios, so now I have voices in my head 🤫.

Cheers and 73.

Not active since 1989. Gonna transfer my American license to a Canadian ticket and dust off my gear. I will have a VE2 Call. Got permission to set up an antenna on my building.
I'll let you know when I am back on the air.
