Spotted these 2 at 2 different golf courses. A tad out of focus but they are beautiful birds.
#1: 1/1250 sec. f/10 200mm
#2 1/2000 sec. f/10 200mm
A little soft but still very nice.

Thanks, I suppose I should have posted in the Analysis section so I could learn what I could have done to improve these type of shots. But knowing this group will get an earful anyway LOL.

What focus mode were you using? Area? Multi point? Single point? One shot or servo?

See what you have done? You have put them off responding to you.

Yea I have a tendancy to talk to much when less is better.
Believe it was el servo and spot, since it was a large bird.

Look, I am still a learner, but there is room for improvement. I couldn't do better myself, but there is not enough detail on the wings of the bird in the first picture.
In the second picture, I can't see the bird's eye. I haven't studied these in detail so there are a few things that could be improved. As I said I| couldn't do better. Perhaps a better lens is what is needed at a great cost as I do know. I am waiting for the fairies to deliver mine.
That was only my opinion, no offence intended.
Have a good day.

Sorry it has taken so long to get back. Your settings seem to be ok. Shutter speed for that telephoto lens is fine. Spot focus is appropriate and AI servo is correct. In the first picture, nothing seems to be perfectly focused. The bird seems to be moving quickly from left to right. Were you panning with it? Or did you keep the camera stationary? If the camera was stationary, perhaps the shutter speed was too slow. If you were panning, which IS mode were you using? #2 is best for panning but #3 will work also. The second shot does not allow me to download it so I can't enlarge it to see enough detail. You can repost it.

No worries. I was planning and I don't really know the position on the IS. That could be it, I keep forgetting about that switch. I have great difficulty getting sharp focus on any of my BIF. This original pix before removing red pole.
