I am not sure of sawfly. I have been wrong before, will be again, but, my reasons. The face looks ' wrong' to me. Jaws too prognathious. Cannot see any prolegs(except anal), so loopers are out, and the skin colour and translucence are off. May it be a Pierid larva??
Bill
P.S., is that a mahogany table backdrop??
Bill, I too was unsure about it being a Sawfly larva but decided on this due to believing it had more than 5 pairs of abdominal prolegs but perhaps I was wrong about that. We have had loads of Pieris brassicae and Pieris rapae. This is similar to P rapae but the others I have seen were more uniformly green, maybe this one is more mature than those I have seen. There is loads of frass of different types on the plants but heavy rain has disturbed it, I am not an expert of frass. I will look for another larvae. We do have a mahogany table but what you can see is a Lazy Susan of probably stained pine. Thanks for your expert help.
