This is a strange one. I have a 16GB micro SD card in a dash cam. It has recorded a whole lot of individual videos. What's weird is, I cannot delete them. I go through the delete procedure, and they're all gone - empty disk. When I put it back into the computer, all the MOV files are back. I cannot format it because Windows can't format it, for some reason. I don't see any way to delete or format in the dash cam. The directions don't mention anything about that. I'm using a Class 4 (recommended) card with 16GB of memory. The max is 32GB.
Oh, another thing, I get "Memory Error" when I turn the dash cam on. I've gotten the same results with two identical cameras and two different cards. Again, the directions are no help with "Memory Error."
Any ideas?
The dash cam records "evidence" and it's against the law to "tamper with evidence?"
That's my WAG, and I'm sticking with it.
Jerry,
You might try formatting it in your Mac using Disc Utility as MS DOS.
Is the write protect tab in the protect position.
Hi Jerry
May I ask why you want to delete the movies? I would guess the camera has loop recording so it doesn't care. Sounds like a make-work project to me.
My small cam in the doorway of my house has the format utility in the phone app. I don’t have a dashcam but have been studying to make a purchase.

I can't imagine tampering enough to make it look like something totally different happened in a video.
In my case, I want to start fresh and get some video recorded. It stopped recording on Nov 30, although it's supposed to keep looping and recording over old video.

That's the problem. The loop feature isn't working. It filled the card and added no new video.

Same result - can't format it.

It's a Micro SD in an adapter, and the write-protect is not locked. I even tried another adapter.
Time to call camera tech support. Sounds like software trouble.

Have you tied formatting it in your car camera on which it was recorded??
Jerry, rather than focus on formatting I would look into the loop function of the dashcam. Other than that you may try selecting some other format type. The manual may specify the type needed.

There's a formatting app for windowz, it will restore the card as if it's an original; it's called "SD Memory Card Formatter" and is from the SD Group Consortium, you can find the download at:
