I did use group auto focus for these shots. I have also used single point with pretty good results. The truth is, I'm still experimenting with this lens. I've not had it for very long.

Owl images are amazing. Are you using "Group" AF on your D500?

I traveled north of Seattle to Samish Island yesterday looking for raptors. While there, I came across five bald eagles feasting on a dead mallard. Two where fully mature eagles and three were juveniles. I had a good time watching them fight over the poor dead duck and these are a few of the best shots I got over the course of about ten minutes. After that they flew off with the duck well out of my range. Later, near the end of the day, I had one opportunity at a Short-Eared Owl. These are my two best from that single fly-by. I waited at least another half hour for it to fly back but it never happened. The sun went down and I went home. These shots were all taken with a Nikon D500 outfitted with a Tamron 150X600mm G2 lens. Thank you for taking a look at these images. I look forward to any comments you may wish to leave.

Love them all, as I wrote yesterday. I do have two questions; which lens where you using, a first generation or a G2? The second is where these handhelds?

Thank you and sorry I missed your question yesterday Mick. This is the G2 version of the lens. I've had it for about two months. I posted some other shots taken with this lens about a month ago on UHH. All these images were captured handheld with the VR switch set on position 2 (panning). The images were shot in RAW and processed using Photoshop CC 2019. All were substantially cropped to arrive at my final result. Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm happy to answer them if I can.

Thanks, I've thought of upgrading to the G2 from my G1. The results you're getting is making me think the weight is well worth it.
