Frame or no frame

I made a Frame template in photoshop and sorta like it and sorta don't .....but the reason for the post is to add another stack of NGC1499 - California Nebula that I took last night

185 total exposures, 85 Ha, 50 OIII, and 50SII (one of our better nights - imaged from 6:30 last night to 4:00 this morning) - Supporting files, 100 bias, 150 Flats (50 each filter) and 20 darks. Processed entirely in PixInsight.

I tonemapped the colors using SHO - Hubble Palette - doing a lot of experimenting with Color Mask in PI and curves to tweak the colors captured....similar to luminosity masking in PS but faster/easier too.

If anyone wants the PSD frame template let me know....you will need a working knowledge of Photoshop - just add your picture - Link the layers - free transform the frame to fit the way you want around your image - leave room for text at the bottom if you want to add it.

This looks great. I love the detail you picked up. I looked out at the coast sky, but huge almost full moon, and open to not try anything. The narrow band filters made it possible I suppose!?

Forget the moon - image anyway. Just try more exposures with shorter times. I imaged with two kits last night - M42 and the Western Veil NGC6995.....I am shooting flats now but will process today or tomorrow but my point...the data looks good and I followed the moon most of the night. I am taking 10 second exposures in L and 20 in RGB or Orion and 45 seconds for L, and 60 seconds RGB for the Western Veil (much feinter)

If I am home and happen to have a clear night (which are rare rare rare) I am going to photograph something!

Nicely shot and processed.
Quite beautiful.
Like you I am torn between the overlay. I see what you are trying to do but the faux matting is just a tad flat.
Things are finally getting up into the part of sky that I like at a reasonable hour.
Now if weather and work would quit conspiring to halt my efforts.

I like the photo and I do like "matted & framed" images - my only dis-like is the size of the mat takes away from the image.
I like to use "increase canvas size" to create my mat and the frame using it allows me to choose the size and color of each very quickly. May I work on yours and share on PM?

Sure...do you want the PSD file? If so, message me your email and I will send it to you!

I like the frameless myself.
Matting can be added when the image is actually framed.
I think the PSD frame detracts for the beautiful image you've created.

Gimme more meat, and less parsley.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I am leaning that way for the same reason - you said it well!

Have a great Thanksgiving season too!

Stay true Ed , it doesn't need any matted framing unless you display it . It's a beauty without it.
