I know I'm not doing something very basic and this is probably an easy fix, but danged if I can figure it out! The brush tool in LR doesn’t work for me. I click on the brush, check show mask and start painting the area I wish to change. I see nothing even though I’ve got the slider to 100%. Thinking it’s working but I’m just not seeing anything, I unclick the mask and add exposure or whatever it is that I want to change. Nothing. I click done. The pin is there but nothing changed. Then I delete the pin! I’m clearly missing a step! Thanks in advance!
Not sure if this is your issue, but when using masks white reveals and black conceals.
What color did you choose for your brush?

Click the arrow above the slider amount. You'll see the full list of basic settings.

Did you click your “O” key (not zero) so you can see the selected area? You should see a red area where you’ve brushed. Also check the brush width, opacity, shape, etc. Good luck!
Very good video. I use the brush a lot, but this taught me stuff I didn't know.
I too use the brush. The video opened me up to a whole lot of new info for me. Very good video.

When using the brush in LR (not PS Bill) set your exposure to + or -2 and then start brushing. Not that's what you want but it shows you where your masking out. Once you have your area set then move all the sliders to what your final intent is.

Morganti has an outstanding set of videos on LR. He also does some PS, On1, Luminar. While they are all on youtube, they are consolidated on his web page
https://onlinephotographytraining.com/ He does an update or something new just about every week.

The exact same thing happened to me when I first started using Lr. For a long time I couldn’t figure out what the heck I was doing wrong. Everything else seemed to work just fine but the brush tool wouldn’t work at all even though the pin was there. Then one day I found that for some reason the density slider was set at 0%. Ran it over to 100% and from then on I had no problems with it. I hope this helps.

The video was fabulous! Thanks so much for the suggestion!
Thank you all! Still ore to learn and practice with but I’m well on my way!

Are you a subscriber? If so, I'd recommend you use Photoshop instead (since you already have it, included in the subscription).
Photoshop is much better than Lightroom, for making selective corrections and adjustments.

Lightroom doesn't use this kind of mask.

Did you ever find your issue and get it fixed?
If not, check your caps lock. I've had that do some wonky things in PS and in LR.
