It's good that you didn't lose any images. Still, those cards have been through an experience that they were not designed for. I'd strongly recommended retirement for them.

They are tough and can take a good bit of abuse. You just need to make sure that they are truly dried and wiped off before inserting the contacts back into the camera. That is especially true with the macro card in the holder because any moisture trapped between the contacts could possibly cause corrosion.

I tested one of my Nikon batteries. It survived the washing machine also.

Done that one too. I'm trying not to run the camera though.

Yes, SD cards are very durable. Cameras have floated in the ocean for years and yielded perfect pictures.

I wouldn't recommend washing them but I would occasionally take a soft pencil eraser and rub the contacts of the SD card. An eraser is a mild abrasive that takes the thin coat of ozone off the contacts.

It's not the exposure to moisture that causes damage, IF THE LIQUID DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY CONTAMINANTS. Pure water does not damage electronic components themselves.

The problem comes if power is applied to WET electronics....like short circuits. If dried out COMPLETELY, there isn't a problem, as long as no corrosive or electrically-conductive residues are left behind.

If a memory card is watertight, no problem. Computer keyboards that suffer spills can be dried. Plain water is okay. A soft drink or coffee with sugar is not good. If a keyboard is rinsed out very thoroughly and then dried completely, it stands a good chance of surviving.

Even dousing in saltwater is not a hopeless situation, if rinsing before the water dries, and complete drying is done internally and out. Ever see how airplane flight data recorders recovered from the ocean are immersed immediately in a tank of water so they don't dry out before getting them to an analysis lab?

I had a similar experience. My washed SD cards are still functioning fine.

I have two SD cards which I use in my trail camera. One is a 16 GB SD card and the other is an 8 GB micro SD card which I insert into an adapter which has the same demensions as the SC card. I usually carry them in my shirt pocket and alternate them daily when I visit my trail camera. Recently I forgot to remove them from my shirt pocket when I changed shirts. Subsequently my wife washed the shirt, without removing cards, in our automatice clothes washing machine.

Later I found and removed the cards and adapter from the washing machine. Although they appeared to be undamaged, I assumed they had probably been internally compromised by their immersion during the washing cycle. However, without much hope of success, I inserted them into my computer and to my delight found that they were still completely functional.

Although I do not recommend washing memory cards, I do recommend that you check them out before you discard them in the event you accidently immerse them.
Is laundering SD card similar to laundering money? If so, you committed a federal crime:)

Happy Holidays

Laundering SD cards - laundering money. Are they the same and if so watch for the Feds :)
