Another argument against wide-to-long zoom lens: the hood that works at f=18mm is way too short
to give adequate protection from flare at f=200 mm.

Look at the lens hood this guy is using:

Of course, digital lenses work nothing like analog lenses--they're digital!

That sounds like the best solution. I haven't looked into this in awhile, but just did a trip thru Europe with my son, his first time. Lost my hood in Paris in the Metro. It just vibrated off! Anyway, the round metal, hopefully screw on, might be the best. Have to test the vignetting. I get this once in awhile shooting in 18mm even with the Nikon hood.
