When attempting to photograph lightning, I just shoot continually while the camera is secured and then check images for lighting. Usually I get one shot out of a hundred.

Beautiful photos. I usually do it the same way. Set tripod, b mode, hand held shutter release and shoot 100 ten second shots and see what happens. That is my secret formula.
