A few shots of planets and the moon. The closeup of the moon and the planets where taken with a Celestron C11 scope. The Moon in the waxing gibbous stage was taken with a 5 inch Apocromatic refactor. The lunar closeup is the of the crater Theophilus. The shot of Jupiter was taken at a slighting lower magnification to include the moons Ganymede and Europa at the lower right of the picture (Note: Jupiter's red spot was just coming in to view in this shot). The position of Mars relative to us was not fully illuminated but in a slightly gibbous stage (A small portion was in shadow making it not completely circular), the dust storms where still occurring muting some of the surface detail. On Saturn you can see the shadow of the rings on the planet in what looks like a dark ring on the planet next to the rings and you can also make out where the planet casts its shadow on the rings where rings go behind the planet. The shots taken with the C11 where done as 4K video with the canon EOS 5D mark IV and the images where stacked to improve the single to noise ratio which helps to remove atmosphere turbulence (This helps a lot with the planets as far south as they where this year since you end up looking though more of the atmosphere from my latitude in Grass Valley Ca).

Visited Grass Valley a couple of times when my Dad lived in Auburn. (Actually he lived off of 49 about half way between Auburn and Grass Valley.) Took my Celestron 6 in. refractor with me one year.

Yep. I've got a few deep sky pictures. I just retired and plan to take a lot more. These pictures are OK and the objects are recognizable but not really top notch yet. Below in order is M27(dumbbell nebula), M20(triffid nebula), M8 (lagoon Nebula), Comet lovejoy, two shots of M31 (Andromeda galaxy) at slightly different magnification, M57 (ring nebula), M33 (pinwheel galaxy) and M42 (Orion Nebula).
