A friend and I took a trip south to the Columbia River this afternoon in search of sandhill cranes... we found them! Lifer bird for me... Gray, overcast light was not my friend, and none of these were closer than 100 yards, so these aren't as sharp as I'd really like, but perhaps next time...

The in flight shots are all pretty cool. Might look neat as silhouettes.

The in flight shots have a graphic quality about them that I find very appealing.

I've often wondered where our cranes go in the winter. We here in Wisconsin host tens of thousands of Sandhill Cranes from early spring 'til late fall. It's an amazing site to watch them "gather" in the fall. Then, suddenly, over night they're gone!

Rocky, they are still excellent set of photos, in my limited opinion.

Many of the sandhill cranes come to the gulf coast in Texas. I live in the Corpus Christi area and I can often see them in fields on the outskirts of town. One group about 50 miles from town has a whooping crane mixed in with the flock.

They come here to Az. They stay with us until about March and then take off group by group until one day there are none. The surrounding farms leave corn in the field for them to gather and the dry beds are kept filled with water for them. We usually get small flocks of snow geese too that come with them. On good years we get large varieties of ducks too. Last few years haven't been very good for visiting ducks but one year the ponds were full.

Still good shots, .  When they migrate to the Othello area the State won't let you get that close.
