What are the thoughts of UHH members about OneDrive from microsoft? It keeps telling me it is full and I need to buy more space. I really don't know what to do with it and I backup to external HD's so is there a reason to use it or is there better options?

Thanks

IF you don't overload it it is handy, I don't pay for it, only keep things I want to access from the travel computer with out a flash drive. I also have Google Drive so the size limit is not a problem for me

For off-site storage I use Carbonite. Unlimited storage for one computer (currently $6/month, billed annually).
This is in addition to local backups on external drive(s).
I can select what gets backed up, and it displays the backup status in Windows Explorer. Changed files and new files are backed up relatively shortly, and you can select "as soon as possible". The initial backup does take a long time.
I use One Drive (free-bee) for passing images to friends, removing them when done.

Similar to Bob, I use Dropbox to share processed jpg photos and/or other files with friends and family so I always stay under the freebie limit. I do not use the cloud for backup purposes as it would be time and money consuming with over 3 terabytes of data. I also use my own cloud system for all my files located on each computer that only I can access from anywhere there is a WiFi connection. Now if there isn't any connection I can make changes on any one computer and as soon as a connection is made then all changed files will replicate/update. As far as backups go I use a 5 HD setup that sync's on 3 nightly and the other 2 monthly. Works great for me.

I use One Drive to store my stereo pair images so I can view them on iPad Mini, 10" & 8" Galaxy Tablets, Samsung phones because they all share Microsoft One Drive. You can also set up other cloud storage with other companies and have all your devices share that cloud storage. The limited use I have for Cloud storage will not exceed my free account. I back everything I have up on external drives rather than cloud. I only use the cloud to share data between computers and devices. Is very handy and free. Not going to buy into storing everything in the cloud as we do have outages and when the internet is down, so goes your ability to see your data or access that account.

One normally backs up to the cloud (archival), not used for normal usage storage.

I use mine everyday. Mostly for my financial/checkbook spreadsheet but I do have it for other documents.
The main advantage is that it appears in my windows explorer as if it were a drive. So, I just drag files to it.
If you have Amazon prime, you get free unlimited photo storage as long it’s not RAW. As soon as you add X amount of other types of files you won’t have unlimited.
With OneDrive, as mentioned, you can work with a file on any device you have, anywhere.

I use OneDrive for select files that I need to access from various locations. But not pictures. I have a lot on Google. I share project files with targeted audiences using Dropbox. For backup, I have two external drives at home and one mobile external drive in my box at the bank.

OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive and iCloud, they're all the same. Probably all run on Amazon server farms someplace. I use Dropbox Professional with 2Tb of on-line storage as an offsite real time backup.

Thanks for the replies. What I didn't like it started syncing and backing up all on it own I never set anything up or approved OneDrive to do anything I would rather be prompted to say yes or no if I want something.

Thanks

One Drive is not that good in my opinion and I find it's nagging very annoying, so I recently stopped using it and now I use "Drive" which is far superior for online storage.

you can go to one drive and set it so it does not synce everything w/o doing it manually. it is nice if you are sharing photos of trips with the people who were on the trip and then deleating them at a later time after the trip.
