My service dog Husker! Without him I would be limited with what I can do in big ways. He is always by my side waiting to help and making me smile! He is charming, sweet and very intelligent. My heart saddens knowing I'm saving money for the next SD I will need to replace him. He is not quite 5 years old but time has gone by so fast and continues to do so which leaves me with the reality that before I know it I will have to train another like him. It took him 2 years to earn his jacket to go out in public. However, he was ready long before that by helping me at home. His youthful eagerness being out in public and just being a happy labby made it hard until he was 2 to work outside the home. We had the most wonderful AKC trainer ever!! Husker is going to have a hard time watching another pup interact with me and if it means breaking his heart I am not going to do it until after he passes. He doesn't like the new German Shepard puppy next door or should I say he doesn't give him the time of day. Husker isn't ever aggressive but makes its clear he doesn't like it when I pay attention to the puppy. When we are out and about he is allowed to say hello to another puppy he is all too thrilled and loves the interaction, its very rare that this is allowed.. It will make life harder for me once I have to retire him but hopefully that will be at least 7 years from now. IDK it all depends on his health and I pray nothing pops up with him more so than he has already had to deal with. Anyhow, he is a ham always wanting to please! IF you have any critiques of this picture, lighting, clarity, DOF, anything, PLEASE pass them my way!!

One heck of a pic, nothing needs to be done with this one as I don't think anyone can improve on it...... BRAVO well done.....
Great picture, Husker is a beautiful pup.
Wonderful shot of a loyal companion and I would not change a thing.
He looks so wise and understanding. Enjoy him NOW while he's with you and let Nature work 'her' usual pattern concerning the future. Sounds as if you are wisely saving with the future in mind, but don't let that spoil the present. I love most dogs, but especially Labs! They are great 'people'!
I really like the lighting, POV, and overall presentation. Very nice photograph.

What a beautiful face...good capture.
All service dogs are a special breed, they all have that look of love and understanding in their eyes.
Awww! He is a beautiful pup. So much love in those eyes. I hope he stays with you for a very long time. Great image as well.
Your dog is very handsome. Your story is very familiar. My wife has had a number of service dogs (all golden retrievers). We had one experience were we brought in a male puppy to eventually replace the current female. Maggie did not like Carrick one iota and we finally decided to give Maggie to another couple that had just lost a Golden. It was a good adoption. Unfortunately Carrick did not make it as a service dog and we had to return him to the breeder in eastern WA. It was amazing as we neared the farm and watch his head poke out the car window. He knew he was home then and was very happy.
So, not to let this be a downer for you, we found another golden soon after that was an amazing companion for my wife for quite a few years. Best of luck with Husker for some time yet to come.
A lovely image of a beautiful friend and helper!
Thanks for sharing your story.... sounds like a very special dog and I hope you have many more great years with him!
The image itself does a great job capturing his spirit and both of your feelings about each other. I really don't think a lot is needed.
I hope you don't mind, I downloaded it and toyed around with some selective sharpening (high pass filter overlay, using layers & masks to limit it to just his face and paw).... and a slight boost in contrast. That's the only way I can "critique" an image.... by looking at it closer and "trying stuff". But in this particular case I'm not sure there was any improvement. The slightly softer and low key nature of the original image just seems very appropriate. I'll re-attach the original and the slightly "tweaked" version, for comparison. But, again, I kinda like your original better! To me the changes might be technically "correct", but make the image a little more harsh.
So if it were my photo, I'd probably leave it alone!
The older I get, the more I prefer the company of dogs to most humans.
