I wished someone told me to shoot as many photos as I want, this isn't film when I got my first digital camera 18 years ago. I was still in the film "frame of mind" so I was careful on how many shots I took for at least 2 to 3 years. Young people today with smart phones think nothing of taking photos from food to the silliest stuff - it is very liberating since they never had to worry about the costs (and frustrations) associated with film.

Shoot B&W to learn light and contrast before moving to color. This was back 60 years ago and saved me a ton of $ as i could easily process my own film, and I think I did learn a lot.

Look around the frame corner to corner before you push.

Use the Auto mode. The camera is good at determining exposure, it needs you for composition.
No generalization is worth a darn, including this one.

"You need a better camera."

I'm still hearing that, always from the DSLR-heads and full-framers.
