From a 30 plus years of computer engineer and company owner, there's no real reason to berate this person. A simple suggestion that some basic computer user training would be in their best interest. I understand support can be a frustrating job, but it doesn't help the user.

What does "backup" mean? It means you are saving a COPY of something to some other place. COPY means it's in two places.
If you MOVE data, it means you are NOT leaving anything in the original location. Clear?

Do you know the difference in practice on a computer?

ew....quit yelling at the guy
If you drag data with your left mouse button to a different hard drive (or partition), it will be COPIED by default.
If you drag data with the RIGHT mouse button to a different drive or partition, you will get a context menu giving you the CHOICE whether to move, copy, or create a SHORTCUT.

A shortcut is NOT MOVING OR COPYING the data. Creating a shortcut on another hard drive puts NOTHING on the hard drive.
NEVER MOVE A SHORTCUT THINKING YOU ARE MOVING OR COPYING THE ACTUAL DATA.

Just for your information, if you left-button-drag something to a different place on the SAME hard drive or partition, it moves it by default. Right-button drag again gives a menu to choose from.

Can you not look to see what happens when you manipulate files/folders?? Is it still where it started, or is it gone from its original location?

You need to learn about the very basics of file management, of which I have just given you a hint. PLEASE get some help so you understand your computer.

This comes from years as a computer tech, encountering users who are NOT AWARE what is happening in front of them and losing valuable data because of it.

First, you must know I know very little about hard drive back up, as I have allways used Carbonite. So my question is-- If I back up my photos with a Seagate hard drive, will a copy of the photos remain on the computer? Pardon my ignorance.

please excuse my ignorance regarding the use of an external hard drive. My career was spent in cardiovascular implant technology. Can you please explain the cardiac retrograde electric circulation mechanism post MI which leads to VF? I didn't think so!! We all have our own expertise. Mine is not External Hard drive usage. That's why I have used Carbonite.I asked for help as a result, not snotty comments.

This kind of behavior is uncalled for. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Yes, I thought we got rid of that sort of behaviour about a year ago. Fortunately, there are few like that around these days.

PSP has set Windows to open a .jpg file by default, right click on a ,jpg file and select open with, choose the programme you want to use and then check always use this programme.

What version of Windows are you using? The program obviously reset a default on installation. At lot of programs like to think they are soooo important that they include this change in their default installation process. But it is easily fixed.

You mean with that background you cannot grasp the concept of moving files?

You'll get better responses posting this as a separate topic: Paintshop Pro Problems.

Please try to keep in mind that not everyone uses PCs where things are simple and clean. Apple, for instance, has some bizarre iCloud process that makes it seem that if you remove a file from anywhere it will be removed everywhere. Apple desires to control everything and is willing to make foolish decisions for you to maintain that control.

You have no idea the circumstances of this member or their age. Being helpful and kind costs nothing.
