Poignant and sad words from Charles Pierce in Esquire:

"In my life, I have watched John Kennedy talk on television about missiles in Cuba. I saw Lyndon Johnson look Richard Russell squarely in the eye and say, "And we shall overcome."
.
I saw Richard Nixon resign and Gerald Ford tell the Congress that our long national nightmare was over. I saw Jimmy Carter talk about malaise and Ronald Reagan talk about a shining city on a hill. I saw George H.W. Bush deliver the eulogy for the Soviet bloc, and Bill Clinton comfort the survivors of Timothy McVeigh's madness in Oklahoma City.
.
I saw George W. Bush struggle to make sense of it all on September 11, 2001, and I saw Barack Obama sing "Amazing Grace" in the wounded sanctuary of Mother Emanuel Church in Charleston, South Carolina.
.

These were the presidents of my lifetime. These were not perfect men. They were not perfect presidents, God knows. Not one of them was that. But they approached the job, and they took to the podium, with all the gravitas they could muster as appropriate to the job.
.
They tried, at least, to reach for something in the presidency that was beyond their grasp as ordinary human beings. They were not all ennobled by the attempt, but they tried nonetheless.
.

And comes now this hopeless, vicious buffoon, and the audience of equally hopeless and vicious buffoons who laughed and cheered when he made sport of a woman whose lasting memory of the trauma she suffered is the laughter of the perpetrators.
.
Now he comes, a man swathed in scandal, with no interest beyond what he can put in his pocket and what he can put over on a universe of suckers, and he does something like this while occupying an office that we gave him, and while endowed with a public trust that he dishonors every day he wakes up in the White House.
.

He is the scion of a multigenerational criminal enterprise, the parameters of which we are only now beginning to comprehend, a vessel for all the worst elements of the American condition and a cheap, soulless bully besides.
.

Watch him make fun of the woman again. Watch how a republic dies in the empty eyes of an empty man who feels nothing but his own imaginary greatness, and who cannot find in himself the decency simply to shut the %$^& up even when it is in his best interest to do so.
.
Presidents don't have to be heroes to be good presidents. They just have to realize that their humanity is our common humanity, and that their political commonwealth is our political commonwealth, too.
.

Watch him again, behind the seal of the President of the United States. Isn't he a funny man? Isn't what happened to that lady hilarious? Watch the assembled morons cheer. This is the only story now."

Golly gee whillikers! That was so well said, so poignant. Tears from my left eye fell onto my right cheek. NOT!!!

But you, and the author, are doing what the Left excels at doing, cherry picking. Let’s take a different look.

How about Johnson saying, we will have every Nigger voting Democrat for the next 100 years.

How about Carter’s failures?

Let’s discuss Bill Clinton’s sexual attacks on Juanita Broderick, we call that a RAPE. What about sexual assault on Kathleen Willey? What about his lying. It seems others are in prison for lying but not Bill Clinton.

We don’t even want to get into Obama’s taking the side of militant Muslims at every opportunity. Let’s also not discuss his piss poor performance as POTUS for blacks and America’s middle class. The upper class elites sure loved him though.

Let’s DO discuss the economical improvement in America since Trump was elected. Let’s discuss his strength as POTUS and standing by his principles to make America a better country. Let’s bring up more jobs for everyone in America, high end jobs, not just burger flippers which was Obama’s ultimate goal. Let’s not forget strengthening our military. Under Carter, Clinton and Obama the military strength of America dropped like a rock.

Of course there is more to be said from both sides but let’s be honest here. President Trump is still doing things and accomplishing goals that previous Presidents aspired to but just didn’t have the know how or balls to make it happen.

The bottom line is the lib fascist socialist dems do not want to see any Trump successes. They will lie and fabricate any story so they can say he is not succeeding.

Even a broken clock is correct twice in a day. I would suggest, however, that Elaine 2025 look up the definition of fascist and socialist (direct opposites) so that the terminology of her rhetoric is proper.

Let's forget about Pierce for a moment and let me ask you, that in the last two years, has Trump done anything that you felt he was wrong about. I believe he has rankled everyone's sence of what is right and wrong. I think even his diehard supporters may question privately while defending publicly. Where do you stand?

That Trump has shocked the sensibilities of the body politic, there is no doubt. But shock, per se, is not necessarily a good thing. In broad strikes, here is my list of particulars regarding the Current Occupant:

1. Incessant lying over matters both important and trivial.
2. Assault on the independence of the Judiciary.
3. Assault on our free press.
4. Filling the swamp instead of draining it.
5. Childish name calling and insults not becoming of the Office.
6. Apparent ambivalence toward hate groups that happen to support him.
7. Cynical Republican tax bill which is exploding our national deficit.
8. Constant self-aggrandizement even in the most inappropriate circumstances (thankful for himself, speech at CIA wall of Honor, speech before the Boy Scouts, etc., etc, ad infinitum).
9. Mysterious relationship with Russia and its connection to his personal wealth.
10. The great Wall Con when he promised that Mexico would pay for it and is now threatening a government shut down if we don't pay for it.

And none of this even considers the possible results of the Mueller investigation. Although I will wait for the results of the investigation before forming an opinion about it, this much is clear: He does not conduct himself as a man with nothing to hide.

I guess you prefer JFK bringing hookers to the White House and the obama entertaining artists who sing about ho’s and bitch’s. To each his own...

Not everyone sees what you see, Interesting that you do not have one positive there. Mysterious relationship with Russia? Your imagination is working overtime looking for the negative.

The post is about Trump, not JFK so your response is irrelevant. Please explain how jFK's misdeeds justify Trump (which I note with some humor that you did not attempt to defend). Besides, did your mother not teach you that two wrongs do not make a right?

Tump himself has bragged about how many things that the Russians have bought from him. Russian investment in the Trump Organization could speak to motive about why he plays Putin Patty-Cake. Mysterious because he has not released his tax returns nor has he put his business interests in a blind trust, as have all former presidents in the modern era. I expect, although I do not know, Mueller will address this in his report.

The lying fake media has not reported that Trump has slept with spies or paraded hookers through the Whit House, or sexually assaulted young interns.

None of his has anything to do with my list of particulars. If you are trying to equate my my views on Trump with support of the sins of past Presidents, you are committing a classic logical fallacy. And you could not be more wrong. if you really want to know my views of the sins of Presidents past, then just ask me directly instead of falsely implying that I supported them.

And if the media has not reported this, then they must not be lying.

Why do you insist on ruining the country by support this disgusting person? Is your anger towards democrats so powerful that you are will to destroy the democracy? That is where trump is “leading” us.

Hilliary lost. I wouldn’t vote for her; I despise her but trump is so much worse. Stop living in 2016 and start trying to save the country in 2019.

Your post made reference to the people in a grand light.
I pointed out the shortcomings of the list cited.
Trump is more good for America than bad.
Your author is write, no person is perfect.
He is more constitutional than a lot on that list.
