look at dpreviews.com and they compare the various cameras you may select. the g12 gets great reviews and can do raw, jpeg, modes, manual, ap and time priorities.

I have the Nikon P7100 and like it very much. My main camera is a D300s and I wanted a camera with an optical viewfinder as well as the LCD panel. The camera was one I wanted to carry all the time because I did not want to carry my DSLR everywhere.
The Nikon allows you to shoot either raw or jpeg, shutter, aperature priority or entirely manual as well as having menu selections for a variety of situations-people, landscape, macro, night, etc.
I have been very pleased with the results from my Nikon. I am not familiar with the other products.

My vote is for the G1x as long as A little bigger than the G12 isn't A deal breaker.Picture quality is great.I have the Ebay leather case and find the camara easy to carry daily.The camara really shines in low light.I haven't used my 7D since I purchased this one.Its A fun walk around camara that handles well.(will fit in a coat pockit) Has some fun features like HDR that seam to work good.Also noticed price comeing down on some internet web sights.For me shooting in side undetected without flash is important.I think the reason this camara is so good in low light is the digipik5 processor.

They have, called Sony NEX7. What a camera. Read the specs.
Also, read the specs on the new Sony Alpa77, DSLR, another WOW. Looks like Sony is opening up new doors into the next generation. Watch out Canon & Nikon.

you are the first one to give some insight into the G1X. I am considering really downsizing and getting rid of my Canon T1s with lenses and my G10 and just going to the G1X. Do you find it to have the reach you need for most situations?

Sony Rumored to be Working on a Full Frame Mirrorless NEX Camera

Mirrorless cameras are designed to offer DSLR-esque sensors inside smaller form-factor bodies, but so far the only company offering full frame mirrorless cameras has been Leica with its M line of rangefinders. That may soon change. sonyalpharumors is reporting with certainty that Sony is working on putting a full frame sensor in a NEX mirrorless camera.

I just learned via (many) trusted sources that the third revolution from Sony is about to happen. After the SLT and NEX introductions (first two revolutions) Sony is about to change the photographic and video industry with the third revolutionÂ… a new Full Frame NEX system!
Sporting APS-C-sized sensors, Sony NEX cameras already boast some of the largest sensors found in mirrorless cameras. Leading the charge into full frame would certainly shake up the market and force other manufacturers to either jump aboard or fall behind. BV

I find the reach to handle my needs.For some reason I find myself using more of the functions than I did with my 7D.I guess because it has less buttons and seems quicker to figure out how to learn the settings.You should check one out where you can pick it up and take it for a spin.I get shots with this camara I couldn't with my others because of its features in a camara I carry all the time.

I have a ton of Alpha lenses and have been reading the same thing. Sony is making my head spin! But now Sony is coming out with a "full frame" Nex! The idea with Nex cameras was that with an adapter any lens could be made to work on it, at least in the manual mode. Now that it full frame I wonder if it will work with Alpha lenses? Conventional wisdom says no. I don't see why both E mount and Alpha could not both work with adapters.

Sony Alpha A77 is not a DSLR, it's actually a DSLT.

I'm headed to the Fuji X-Pro 1. Analog manual shutter speed dial and f/stop ring on lens. Crazy nice (and different) APS-C sensor.
