For the price, you need to look at Macs. Why would you consider something else? Very odd choice when you can afford the Apple system.

You meant PC are only for the poor?

I'm considering anything, thanks. Seems about $1000 more expensive if you get the better options. Also, I'm a little hesitant about the smaller screensize of the Apples.

It would cost $2800 to get a Mac with the same power as the Dell XPS. (MacBook Pro)

I have the 2017 XPS with the 4K screen and it works great with Photoshop and LR. No problems with icons etcetera except for the Nik plugins from DXo. I’ve calibrated the monitor even though it was quite accurate to begin with. I print via image print wirelessly and I get great results.

I'm looking long and hard at this Lenovo, which can be configured in a wide range of capability and price.

Maybe he doesn't want to be limited by what Apple dictates for their closed systems.

I have no experience with laptops for photo editing, but googling "best laptops for photo editing 2018" turns up multiple sites that rate other makers over Apple. Seems like Apple is not necessarily the preeminent brand for laptops/photography any more, unless the sites are biased. That's why I started this thread--to get other's opinions. Appreciating everyone's input so far. Thanks.

Have to agree 100%. I've just loaded Windows 7 on my MacBook and remembered how horrible the Windows OS is. Had to do it to run an app. Hate it.

Macs "Closed systems"? A myth. Mac run all the photographic apps. Fast. Reliable. User-friendly. Elegant. Plug and play works on Macs. All Wintel machines I've ever used get slower and slower as data is added. Mac OS is Unix based, resilient and stable. My experience with Wintel machines is the opposite.

The cost of all the software loaded on my Dell laptop is about $20,000. All of those can't run on a Mac.

If anybody wants DELL and wants to save a ton, look at DELL outlet Store for refurbished. thttps://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineSales/Online/InventorySearch.aspx?brandid=2201&c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh&frid=127&~ck=mnhe
I got an Inspiration 7000 15 inch laptop with 4K touch Screen , Pen enabled, fast chip touchscreen 516GB SSD for $915.20 plus tax.I used an online coupon code to get that price, which they run changing every few days. You may have to look several days to find in stock what you want as it changes daily. My 2nd one was a 2:1 with same specs for $792.96 (better coupon ) for my SO, as mine was so great. Both run PS Elements great! A friend just took delivery yesterday of one with 256GB SSD for about the same $. It takes a little work, but saves $500 + off new is what I found for similar configuration. Hope this helps others. 1 year DELL warrenty included thru this DELL outlet.

I'm using a 2 year old Dell XPS right now. It runs great, battery life is good and it is extremely lightweight. It fits nicely in my camera backpack and I've dragged this thing all over the place. Highly recommended.

Pretty much any laptop with the new i7 cpu, dedicated video gpu, and 16gb of RAM will work fine. A 4K screen is a plus. A solid state drive (SSD) for boot and editing programs is a big plus. I use a Dell G3 and it is speedy and has not caused any problems.

I googled "Best laptops for photo editing 2018," and was surprised to see the Dell XPS 15 rated tops on a couple of sites. This would be the 2018 version with 6-core, i7-8750H mobile processor, 32GB system memory, 4k screen. Does anyone have experience with this laptop that can comment on how it performs using PS and LR? Thanks.

I have the 2017 version of that laptop with 16 GB/i7 7th gen Quad, and it performs very smoothly with PS, LR and other CC apps, so I would imagine with the next gen processor, 2 extra cores and double the RAM it should perform like a charm. Also an SSD drive helps which I have in my Dell, and I suspect that model should have it too - if not as an option I am sure (recommended).

The other item to consider is to keep the laptop "tuned" frequently - I use System Mechanic which periodically cleans the junk out of the system and optimizes the cores. Also keep it virus free with a good scanner like Symantec.

I have a 2017 version I think. ( core 7 chip )
Works fine w LR and I use it when I travel a lot for photos.
Usually us a a desktop at home cause the screen is bigger and the mouse is easier to use than the touchpad I think.

I don't use the touchpad on my laptop. I have a Logitech gaming mouse. Connects through the USB3 port. I prefer wired mice as they seem to have a faster response time to the wireless ones. (By the way, it is easy to set up the touchpad to disable when another pointing device is plugged in. Control Panel/devices/
touchpad/additional settings/, click box for disable when external pointing device plugged in. This is on Windows 10.)
