"Vendor" - or manufacturer, Nosaj?

The Manufacturers are Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax, Leica, Fuji, Olympus, Panasonic, et al ....

Vendors - are the folks who buy their merchandise, for resale to us - the consumers ...

Manufacturer.

Thanks for responding. Happy holidays also. Many people here will cast a broad based opinion without anything beyond their personal single brand experience. My wife's Nikon FM2n is still functioning perfectly, as is my first SLR, a Zenit E. Mostly I've use Canon - my AE-1 and T90 - still work well, so I haven't needed to call on service. I did have a good experience with Canon when I bought a refurbished 80D. It seemed to be behaving erratically, but after some experimenting I worked out that it was the battery that was bad. I called Canon, they listened to the problem and my test procedure, and said no problem, we'll ship you a new one.

The only really bad service experience I've had was with an expensive Lenovo laptop, I won't go into the details, but the company was unresponsive from the beginning, not at just the service level but also the top executive level where I had access and a publishing platform. They didn't care. On the other hand I've found Dell to be pretty responsive, especially when you copy the right executive in a polite e-mail. No company is perfect, but Dell does seem to care about customer satisfaction more than many I have had experience with.
Thanks for responding. Happy holidays also. Many... (show quote)

Don't know about Lenovo laptops, Peter, since I don't buy them for myself, but all of my desktops (four, now) are Lenovo, and I've always found Lenovo after-market service to be extraordinarily good. When I had a problem with my first one, I sent it to them, after receiving their pre-paid shipping label, and they sent it back to me with a brand new pre-loaded hard drive, and the old one in a separate package, even though the PC was already out of warranty!

When I had an even simpler problem with my second one, they sent me the entire Win 10 Pro Operating System on discs, with step-by-step instructions on how to install it, in order to eliminate the problem I was having.

My third Lenovo - powered by AMD (sigh!) has never been a problem, unlike all the Intel-based ones. (It's also the fastest, by far.)

My fourth Lenovo - got bogged down, and the AVU/Spyware Utility went bad, within the first month of purchase. This time, I got back to Staples, and they promised I could swap it for a new one. I did, on the last day of my 30-day return guarantee, and have never looked back.

The only service I have ever had to get from Panasonic was conducted via e-mail. The response was quick (same day) and was spot-on.

Other than that, I did have to send a dropped 50-200 to Olympus. The turn-around was good; the quality, excellent.

Did Olympus replace the lens, Shoe, or did they repair it? ... Did it cost you, or was it done, gratis?

All my gear is Canon. Great costumer service whenever I called. Informative and knowlegable. Plus they are in the US so you can understand them. That in itself goes a long way with me.

Oh, yes, Todd ... I agree with you wholeheartedly, on THAT score!!!

Sony Customer Service is in Malaysia - of all places ...

Nikon, though - I think - has a Customer Service Operation here, in the USA, as well as the one in Hong Kong.

Not sure where Pentax Customer Service is - but, it's possible they have one in Canada ...

At least, when you go through the various first responders, that's where you end up, when you want REAL customer satisfaction.

Not sure about all the others, but I suspect Panasonic also has a Customer Service operation in Canada.

Olympus? ... I suspect that one's overseas, but that's just a guess!!!

Don't know about the after-market support services you have to pay for, but w/o such services - I can tell you - Sony sucks!!!

And, Canon - is more interested in getting money from you for further service, than they are - in FIXING your problem!!!

Fuji - wants to help - and are truly interested in doing so.

Nikon - is equally supportive.

That's MY take, and I'm sticking to it!!!!

My 40 plus years of experience with Nikon, Canon and Sony Pro services has been different than yours, and "I am sticking to it". Cheers

Yes, but, G - as you've pointed out - yours has been with Premium Customer Service, which means you paid for them.

My experiences have been with basic CS - which you don't (and shouldn't have to) pay for ...

BTW, G - I purchased my first Nikon FtN - in 1971, and the Nikon F2 - the following year ...

My first Nikon F was bought in 1968.
