Hi everyone -

I am going to buy a 2018 Mac Mini with the Intel six core i7-8700B processor and 512GB SSD. I am struggling with whether to buy 16 GBytes RAM or pay the extra $400 for 32 Gbytes RAM. I use Lightroom and Photoshop (open at the same time), and sometimes MS Office and Chrome also open. I open all photos in Lightroom and frequently send them to Photoshop for special editing. I am dabbling in panoramas (largest I've done so far was to combine ten 26 Megapixel photos). Any feedback you can give on whether 32 Gbytes RAM is a worthwhile investment would be much appreciated.

No computer guru but I would opt for the 32 GB of RAM. My desk top has 16 and always want more.

$400 for an extra 16GB is absurd. There are two memory slots and you can buy 2 16GB DIMMS for less than $200 (and maybe sell the factory 2x8s). Buy it with minimum memory, up grade to 32 with after market memory. You may wish to save the OEM memory in the event you have a warranty issue.

more ram is always good and in theory the 2018 mac mini is user upgradable. You might want to watch a video on how to do the upgrade. You should save money doing it yourself but if its not a problem then you can have apple do it. it will be 2 x 16 sodimms and you will be left with 'spare' ram.

I like at least 16 but 32 might be better. I'd be more at peace with 32, It would be a regret if i didn't get it (even if 16 seems to be enough for me).

If you are at all familiar with assembling disassembling computers it’s a 15 minute process to upgrade the memory. You will save $100’s. I am contemplating buying one myself and wouldn’t pay more than the price for the 16gb option before upgrading myself. Many videos online to see the process and decide if you are comfortable doing the installation.

Exactly, I just went through this issue this week with a less than 2 year old Microsoft Surface. The latest version of Windows and Photo Shop would not open due to lack of ram.
New computer time. 16gig is all I could get, but it left me wondering how long before even that is not enough.

I love apple computers but they rip people off with the price of there ram. I always upgrade my memory by myself very easy and you save lots of money. 32 gig would be my choice save your apple ram for warrantee issues. Apple will not honor the warrantee with after market ram in your computer.

It is possible, but much more complicated than in the past.
