Can't import photos.
I have a Dell desktop with windows 10. I have been placing my sd card in the onboard slot and have imported my photos.
I have just returned from a vacation and cannot import my photos as I always have. I place the card in the slot and
I get a slideshow,
According to the help section I have to use a USB cable to import the photos. Did I miss an update I didn't want?
I have been importing from the SD card for years, any idea why I can't now?
Are you using windows to import? does the SD card appear in the file explorer?
I have a Dell also and it happens to me once in awhile and found that if I restart the computer everything is back to normal
Go to control panel - hardware and sound - autoplay. Select camera storage/memory card and from the drop down menu choose an option. I have mine set to "take no action." I create a new folder in Pictures and just drag the photos from the SD card to my folder.
I don't know if the Windows update automatically changed what you had before because I have had my own laptop offline for months
(one of the huge irritations is how often preferences are changed with those updates)
Thank you to all. Problem solved.
What did you do to fix the problem may be of help if I have it again or someone else ?
I was able to return to my normal importing from the SD card by rebooting the computer.
Thank you for the quick responses.
When that happened to me I had to replace the onboard card reader. Good thing it was covered by the warranty

Take a look at "The IT Crowd" on Netflix. "Did you try turning it off and back on again?" Funny show from England.

Launching a slide show is software not hardware - there is no reason to replace the hardware for that.
I am glad to see that you have solved your "problem." I would make the suggestion that in the future whenever you update your operating system, that you *immediately* manually reboot your computer after the update is finished. This is not a trolling- just a result of computer experience - large and small - since the 1970s. Happy shooting! (And downloading your images
Always a first step when the unexpected happens on a computer.
Glad you solved it.

Sound advice, Linda. By making "take no action" the default you make it possible to use the File Explorer without the necessity of first closing the slideshow.
