The true story of the Texas Mockingbird...
found on the internet, so this may not be 100% true...
I come from Texas and I'm proud that in this time of political correctness and euphemisms, we have such a state bird!

Dittos from Florida, our State Bird too.
I moved from Michigan to Texas. It was only then that I came to understand the meaning of the title of the book, To Kill a Mockingbird. The sounds of the Mockingbird are truly extraordinary. It mocks a wide range of songbirds. One bird, can, indeed, mimic a vast array of beautiful song. It's amazing. However, it can begin at 5 a.m. and last until sundown. Day after day, 24/7. Song after blasted song. 5 a.m. after blooming 5 a.m., being awakened by that loud, albeit gorgeous song. By the end of the summer it's enough to make one want to kill a mockingbird.
