I was overlooking the Li River before dawn. As the sun started to rise and expose the scene in front of me, I was struck by how two dimensional and flat the mountains along the river appeared. I think it was partially a result of morning fog. It was truly a black and white scene so that’s how I recorded it.

A surreal image. Well done!

I like the misty mood.
Me too, Karin. The mist did make it moody.
Thanks, I thought there was something cool about how flat the background looked also.

Thanks, iDoc, it really was a landscape I had never seen before or anything like it.
Great shot. What is the small village in the picture?
Great shot that has to be seen on the download. Thank you.
Wow! I keep going back to look at this picture it’s beautiful
Very striking scene--like it very much; the mountains are so unusual as to look unreal, and without the town we might have no sense of scale. Trying to decide about the sky. As I'm sure you know, our eyes tend to go to the brightest thing in the frame, so the sky pulls me away from the surreal scene below. And yet without it....

Thanks, Steve. The GPS map info states 24°55'32.7"N 110°28'44.9"E, Yangshuo, Guilin, Guangxi, China; it is a village on the outskirts of Guilin in Guanqxi province.
