I have seen a few posts about problems Apple computers when updating to the Mohave OS. Well yesterday I update my Mac Book Pro to Mohave and all went well, until I tried to take some pictures and burn them to a CD. I have always used an Apple Superdrive and it has worked well, until I updated. Now after I insert the CD the "finder" windows comes up and I OK it, but the computer does not recognize it as there is no icon on my desktop or in finder. I called Apple support and 1hr, 45 minutes later I was told they would forward all of the information that they had gleaned from me onto engineering. About an hour later I received a call from Apple support and I was told that there is a glitch in their Mohave OS and it does not recognize the SuperDrive. I am told they are working on a work-a-round and they will contact me on Thursday and see if they have any updates. Until then I am stuck without being able to download pictures onto a CD. I do this to give to folks my pictures that I have taken during a restoration process as many folks are a bit afraid of using a thumb drive and also they are quite a bit more expensive that a pack of CD's

Gary - Sorry to hear about this annoying problem, but don’t exactly know how a Superdrive works.
1) Can you load the photos from your camera onto your computer?
2) What tools do you use to edit the photos?
3) Do you have any means to insert CDs directly into the computer OR do have any other means such as a different external drive to transfer data/images to CDs?
4) Do you have any way to connect your computer into an audio CD player OR a combination DVD/CD player that can both read and write images?
5) I assume there are too many images to just email (in zipped form?) to the recipients?
Those are just my off-top-of-head thoughts. Keep us posted.

One nice thing about osx is you can boot different versions on the same machine, with some limitations Mac Hardware apparently doesn't like to boot a version older than the OS it came with. It can even start with a blank hard drive and reinstall the original osx version over the internet.

Currently i'm experimenting I pretty much have yosemite on all my macs but i've been trying more recent builds High Sierra causes problems with the nik collection (from google) .

The Mac Book Pro does not have a CD drive so you need to use an external drive, Apple's version is called USB SuperDrive. I can download pictures from my camera to the computer, I download to an external hard drive and then bring them into Lightroom. Prior to the update I would export the photos to my desktop, then copy and paste to the "untitled" CD drive, once they are on the CD, you "eject" the CD and it asks you to name your CD, then it burns it to the CD. When that is finished there is a icon on the desktop with the name that you have give the CD, you click on it, eject it and you are done. At least that was the way to do it until Mohave OS came along. Now the CD is never recognized so of course you can't work on something that the computer says is "not there". Hope Apple experts can figure out a fix soon!! I have never had any problems with Sierra, but be careful if you are looking to upgrade to Mohave.

It baffles the mind that a company that charges so much for their products can over look something like this!

This may be an inexpensive work-around....

I recently needed to buy a CD/DVD drive for my new MacBook Pro. I "sprung" for a very inexpensive drive (<$25) on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N7K4EHN/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). It is made in China, but works well on both read and write, on the new Mojave OS. Box reads, "Super Slim USB2.0, Slot-in DVDRW". Looks like a generic build. I already had a couple of the USB2.0 to USB3 (Thunderbolt) conversion plugs. Plug-and-play.

Always best to wait for 1.1 or 1.2 updates to avoid heartache

Yeah, there have been too many problems/limitations in Mojave for me to use it. Besides, my Macs are from 2011, and that doesn't qualify for the Mojave upgrade.

2011? Thats a relatively new machine in my house. Although I do have one shiny new 2017 MacBook Pro, my other hardware is a 2009 iMac (most used), a 2012 McBook Air (wife), and 2008 MacBook Pro (emergency backup). All are running Mojave without any problems, at least I haven't had any.

I like to maintain the OS at the same versions to keep the interface consistent. Most files reside on a Synology DiskStation and I must admit that older machines have been upgraded to SSDs, Bluetooth 4, and 802.11AC WiFi capabilities.

I read the details section to see if the new upgraded software brings me any added features that are "must have's". I am not interested in fluff....

The Apple CD player is messed up with the new system. Apple must fix it. To use the bCD MAKE A FOLDER of the info to be printed go to select and burn it.

Got this from a Sr Tech. after a hour trying to fix it. Found Apple needs to fix. Didn't do it in the first fix.

I have not had this specific problem - yet, simply because I have not needed to use the external Super Drive. However I am having all sorts of other problems ever since I upgraded to Mojave.

I think that it is a problem specific to Apple's CD burner, and that it is still possible to use burners from other manufacturers, but I do not remember where I read that.

...boy, I dunno 'bout Mojave. I upgraded and had a big problem with my external monitor not being recognized, went thru the process of calling in (my experience with Apple support is very positive, even now!) and jumped thru a bunch of hoops to no avail. In the end I've rolled back to Sierra and all's well, but this OS seems to have a few big problems...
