I have taken the next step... started with Nikon D200, then D300, then D810. Yesterday my wife and I went on a whirlwind shopping spree. She got the ring and I got the D850 camera! Win Win!!!

This was the result of taking a mental health day shopping because of the fires that surrounded our house and the Borderline shooting nearby in my hometown.

Enjoy life while you can, it is fleeting.

What a winning proposition for both of you. We hope that you and your wife don't suffer from any of the losses that many are. We'll say a prayer for you and your neighbors.

The ring will appreciate in value. The camera will not.

Yes, I've found that buying things makes me happy and chases the blues away. As long as I have working credit cards, I'll keep smiling.

PS - A little lemon juice, vinegar, and ammonia will clean up that ring and get it looking nice again.

Yes. You deserve the indulgence. That’s a lot for anyone to deal with. Enjoy your splurge. It is an amazing camera. And your wife’s gem isn’t too shabby either. 👍

Could not agree more about life being fleeting and uncertain. In 38 years as a law enforcement officer I saw many tragic examples of why we should enjoy each minute we have here on earth. Every person killed in a tragic accident and murder got up that morning put their clothes on just like we did today but had no clue today was the day. Is today our turn? So be a good kind loving person, play hard, work hard and take many photographs.

A little Retail Therapy goes a long ways. I shoot Canon, but if I was switching systems the D850 would be my only choice.

Gather ye rosebuds while you may! So happy you have the means to get your rosebuds and the ability to still enjoy them! Good wishes go out for you and your community. Hope the fires end soon!

A mental health shopping trip, well I guess that is a new one on me but I like the idea. Personally, with that much fire around be, my thoughts would be to get more hotdogs but I think you will enjoy your purchases more. That is truly a win-win for you guys!

Sure is better to look at the roses as opposed to the roots. Like you said ... life is short and definitely comes as a thief in the night. I lost my first wife shortly after I walked out of the bathroom to get her slippers at age 55.
Remarried a couple years later and lost the kids and grandkids too.... didn’t think that dear old dad should be able to go on with life.
God gave me a blessing in my new wife.... her kids did the same.

But don't put any of those things on the camera!
