David,
looks like a good capture. You need to do some post processing on it. Straighten it out, it looks tilted. Then reduce the brightness, kick up the blacks and sharpen it.
Now that I've told you that, I hope you have Lightroom to do it in because that's the most photographer friendly program (in my opinion).
Good luck
Frank

I suggest that you crop down to just the vineyard and house. the road and lamp posts are distracting assuming the winery is your meant to be your center of interest.

Thanks Frank and LustyLarry for your comments. I cropped the pic a bit and it does look better, still retaining enough of the driveway in the pic I think.

Hi, David. My suggestion would be to have more space to the left of the building and a bit of cropping to make the building and the vineyard plants the main focal point of the shot. Having a stigmatism in one eye I almost always have to be careful of the evenness of the horizon which makes me have to adjust it. Another thought would be to always take a wider shot of any subject to get a fuller image. That way you can try different ways of cropping without losing your focal point. Sometimes you can even get several different images of one shot. One other thing I do is take a horizontal AND vertical shot of every subject. Keep at it and good luck!

Ledson was absolutely my favorite wine of all the places we went in Napa and Sonoma. You can only buy it at the winery and some select restaurants so we joined their wine club.
I actually liked the perspective the road and the receeding lamposts lend to your photo the other critiques were correct that it does draw your eye away from the winery itself. Would be a good 1st photo in a series moving to a closer look at the winery. Just needs sharpened a little and more vibrance in colors. Thanks for posting.

Thanks Lenslooker, I see your points. When I shot this photo, I didn't take time to try different vantage points. I'll have to work on that. Thanks again.

Thanks Billyzee, I wanted to show the driveway, but looking back on my shot, I probably should have gotten some shots from other angles. Glad you like Ledson Wines, btw...it's a beautiful venue, as are many in our area.

Also remember I didn't have the original to work with so it's going to seem wrong anyway... with the original I could have done some real work... I used PS CS5.

Good job..not much to work with given I was so far away from the "castle". I, too, wanted the road in the photo, but once I saw how small the building was, I knew it was a futile effort to have the best of both. I'll have to try it over again from some different angles.

I agree the building is wonderful... need a closer shot of it... cropping just doesnt do this pic justice.

I like the road - leads the eye to the building. I agree that it looks a bit tilted.

I like it with the street lights in it. But I also think it would look good if it was just the castle and vineyard, no street lights at all. Just a thought.......
