Many thanks Bob. This has been a learning process which seems to be getting easier with each effort.

Vicki, I love the sad eyes. Excellent set.

Thanks for taking time to visit and comment Greg. The sad eyes seem to tell a story even if it's only imaginary.

These are all nice, Vicki, and the second is my favorite. It has the “curious dog” look that is so interesting.

This dog has lots of personality and may have raised the bar for animals that pose well without needing the owner to hold a paw.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply John. I always appreciate it.

Sad expressions - but she is lovely and so are your photos.

Here are a few of a dog that I photoed today for a fundraiser. She's a hound mix, and the owners hoped I'd be able to get some of her forehead wrinkles. Wrinkles or not, she was a good poser. In most of the shots, I used a black drape as a backdrop rather than depending on dark shadows to set her off.

Very nice Vicki. I'm sure the owners were pleased.

Thank you Stash. I sent 8 images to them late last night and am still waiting to hear whether they liked them. We did a second set to pose the dog specifically for "wrinkles" at the owners' request.

Very well done, Vicki. That's a beautiful dog. I think I like #'s 2 and 4 better, as the lighting seems a bit more even in those. But they're all beautiful. If I were the owner, I'd probably get them all!

Many thanks Kathy. You raised a great point about the even light, and I think I'll be more careful about that during future efforts. One of the problems I had was created by a reflected shadow from a window on the right (as odd as that sounds). I didn't notice it until I opened the images on the computer - part of the learning process I guess.

Love them can you discuss how you did them?

This was a challenging effort because the space I'd planned to use was taken over by a group attending a surprise party. We ended up in another space in bright, midday sun, where I had to create a bit of shade to minimize contrast. I used a black drape background which I angled to create shade as well as the dark space behind the dog. Any imperfections from light on the drape were corrected in pp. I hope this information helps.

Many thanks for taking and interest in this post sueyeisert.
