My friend wants me to take pictures of the front of her son's home in Corona Del Mar. I was at Crystal cove with my camera club and a friend saw my photos and said she would love to buy two or three prints for her son's office. She has changed her mind and instead wants photos of the front of his house and The back with view of ocean. I am scheduled to go on Saturday, She has asked if I know where she can have photos printed. I am thinking I should have the photos printed but she is particular so might be best for her to print and frame.
She will pay and money is not a problem, However not sure what I would charge for the SD of my photos and of course the drive time. Or if I have them printed and I think she wants big like 24x36 to 30x40 maybe larger.
Anybody heard of Fotoworks Pro Photo Lab in Tustin? Thanks again!!

Never ever give your negatives and or SD cards to anybody! Accompany her to the printers and get your SD cards back.

Are you a pro photog? If so, treat this like any other photography assignment and charge your customary fees and provide only the prints to your customer as you would any other client.

If you’re not a pro, do you routinely charge your friends for your time to do favors? If you don’t, then treat this like any other favor. If you’re not concerned about copyrights, then copy the pics to a thumb drive as jpgs and give them to your friend with the caveat she return the thumb drive and be done.

If you want to turn this into a commercial opportunity, then the lady is your client and you control the process like a pro and provide a finished product and retain your images and rights. There is a lot of info on the web on how much to charge for photography services to help you get started. One example:

I used Pro Photo several years ago when I lived in Newport Beach and they were at another location near the airport. Had occasion to visit their present store recently. Same very nice people.

DO NOT GIVE YOUR SD CARD...... If insists on doing her own printing. I would provide the edited photos by way of drop box or any online storage, giving her a link to it, making it available for a limited time, say a week.

I don't think the two samples you show work at all (just my humble opinion). Here is a good article for framing and matting.

The job is not too much. Just make sure you do not charge too little. This is already a 10+ hour job, so time plus materials is already over $1K. Quality custom frames of that size can cost upwards of $300 each from a framer. And just because you might be doing it yourself does not mean she is the one who benefits. Value your work.

Hi dmeltz Thanks for chiming in. I am having the work done at a frame place. They are much smaller then what she first wanted. The gold frames are a custom frame 10x16 and materials come in at $600. Prints and framing!

So $300 each? OK. So value your work at least as much as the frames they sit in.
