I just now placed one and did get tax charge. But that's ok, I'm getting what I wanted

Michigan recently passed the collect sales tax rule as well. I’ve never let the tax rule guide my purchases. It was about the price of the item, shipping cost and reliability of the merchant. Knowing out of the gate that locally I would be paying tax anyway.

While Amazon collects taxes on items they sell directly, 3rd party sellers who sell via Amazon are not collecting local sales tax, and neither is Amazon. I wonder how long that will last.

I ordered a couple lenses this weekend (to Ohio). No tax yet. They told me they are adding states incrementally and that I was still good...

so far B&H doesn't charge me tax but amazon does

Well here is the problem. Camera and video acquisition gear is not around locally anymore. We had in Philadelphia before I move to FL
pro stores in the city for cameras, pro equipment etc. All gone. And now we are near Miami you can count on on hand the resources for gear.
I bought some economy LED lighting for video and some new powerful flashes to get back into stills with strobes. Best Buy is sorta OK
but very little or nowhere in stores is any of this gear available. I used to buy from B&H because nobody had a stock and the expertise
to sell and tell me what is a good buy. If you want the prosumer and pro Canon, Sony or Nikon, Panasonic cameras most likely you will
have to go online. Used and selling & buying is ebay. China & South Korea are making gear for a fraction of the cost of the big makers.
You can get a Rokinon Cine Lens 24mm 1.5 pretty sharp well made for 400$. The major brands thousands. You can only get online.
I have gotten from 70 to 30% purchase price for used gear on ebay. So our whole photography and videography equipment is mostly
online. If I really want something I will pay the tax. Or not. If online seller says no tax. There you go. The answer.

I was going to order the Canon 7d mark11. I see that they are now charging tax. This is the first I've noticed, that. However, looks like Adorama doesn't yet. Since both are closed for Phone orders today, Anyone else notice this?

Thanks SENSORLOUPE

Trump believes in tax avoidance.
Let others pay for schools, roads, FEMA, military, public works, clean water and air, police and fire protection , social security, Medicare, and all those other strange entitlements.

Every sane person believes in tax avoidance - and it is quite legal. Tax evasion, however is illegal. Avoidance is making financial decisions that result in you legally keeping more of your money. Tax evasion, in context of this thread is buying over the internet sales tax free and refusing to pay your legal usage tax bill. Currently this requires self disclosure. I would not bet on it staying that way and more on line retailers will collect for your state.

If Trump did not believe in tax avoidance, he would be an idiot. You may not like him, but he is not an idiot.

I am not so sure taxes aren't the invention of politicians. Taxes near the turn of the century (1900) were non existent. Then the politicians decided THEY needed income to run the country. Imagine, the country did fine without taxes and most folks were able to save a hefty amount of their earnings. I don't believe it is a matter of "man-up".

Quite the uninformed view. Income taxes were not yet legal in 1900, but the Feds got most of their tax revenue from alcohol sales. That is where the term “revenuers” comes from. To get prohibition pushed through, the 16A was necessary. The Feds were not going to let booze taxes dry up without a replacement. Then when the 21A passed, bang, double whammy. Taxes have been a fact of life as long as there have been governments and the USA is not exempt from that, never has been.

Every sane person believes in tax avoidance - and ... (show quote)

It would be foolish for a billionaire like Trump not to engage in legal tax avoidance to save millions in taxes; while others far less fortunate struggle with life--and pay taxes to fund government responsibilities--like education, FEMA, law enforcement, military etc.
Still, Trump refuses to release his tax returns.

And I refuse to release mine, so what. We both know how the media would twist reporting on legal deductions so that the uninformed (which, in tax issues, is most Americans) believe there is felonious activity. The man wasn’t them, nor is he now, taking his salary from the public treasury.

The good news is that your local camera store may survive. I consider it an essential luxury to go to a store, handle equipment, get advice from knowledgeable people, and come back with a a problem they just might resolve. This is worth the tax.

You may not believe it you actually owe the tax in the state that you live. I know it's unlikely that you will get audited but the fact is that you could. Also do you like having roads or schools or a Police force or are fire and ambulance service you might think about paying your taxes. Because if you don't somebody else will have to. I believe America is the 44th most taxed Country in the world.
