Setting up YYYY-MM-DD folders on Sony A6300

Hi,
We have the new camera now and my wife has taken about 60 shots with it. I've just realised that it numbers photos sequentially (ok, nothing new in that) but does not put them into date folders.

My Canon 7D does this but I can't see in the Sony manual whether I can do this on the 6300. Probably my issue is that I don't know the heading to look under.

Can anyone tell me the section I need to study?
Thanks
Hoges

To my knowledge you can’t, I have the Sony 6500. If anyone knows how it would be great.

I've never wanted that feature, but, as you said, Sony doesn't seem to offer that option. I prefer straight numbering. I wonder what compact cameras offer that folder option.

If you use Lightroom, it can do that for you when you import. No need to do it in the camera.

I create folders on my PC as needed and copy my photos from the SD card to them. File name format is "yyyy mo brief text description". Never found reason to use a day descriptor. Then when I Import into Elements all the folders are shown on the left panel in date order with the descriptors.

I do the same but it would be nice if we could transfer a dated folder.

I've found an email address for Sony Australia so I've asked their tech about this. Will advise what they return with.

Sony cameras have a menu option to create folders and select what folder you want the camera to save images too. These folders are created on the SD card and good care of SD card says you after downloading images from your SD card you reformat the SD card in camera. You will need to create folders again.

This is not a problem. I create folders during my day of shooting for different locations, but you can folders to meet your needs.

Received an answer from Sony Australia. The 6300 doesn't make folders like that.
Not the end of the world. Just would have been nice.

Actually it’s real easy to save in daily date folders. After shooting, plug your SD card into the computer and then use Sony’s Play Memories program to download the images. They are then saved in Daly dated folders automatically. Easy, peasy!

I store all my photos this way and then i move them to another master directory named Lightroom with subfolders by subject, place, etc. I then use this as my import folder for Lightroom.

I also have a raid drive copying these two master folders to the second drive continuously. This way I have a master folder by date and a master folder by subject all backed up.

I use Sony's "Play Home memories" to download photos, and that does indeed sort them into date folders. I don't care much for the program otherwise - I much prefer FastStone.

But for that it is good.
