The case of South Dakota vs. Wayfair solidified the law. It puts all internet retailers in the same position as local sellers when it comes to taxes, making all buyers pay their fair share to support their states (and local) services!
actually that's the way it should be--all the same
Tax Avoidance doesn't pay for anything.
I collected sales tax for the state many years, and often the amount sent to the states was greater than the amount paid myself,
Of course many politicians salary and benefits were far greater than mine, even in retirement,
And I owned the company,
I am glad my local camera store Roberts has equal ground, with B&H, and Amazon.

Being a military retiree I can order from the online PX and pay no tax. However I have found that it is usually cheaper to buy down town. Ever since President Johnson turned the PX and Commissary over to private business there have really been no savings for the military community. I bought my Olympus camera from the PX when it was on sale so I did save some there.

I was going to order the Canon 7d mark11. I see that they are now charging tax. This is the first I've noticed, that. However, looks like Adorama doesn't yet. Since both are closed for Phone orders today, Anyone else notice this?
Thanks SENSORLOUPE
I am from Pennsylvania and just received the Nikon D500 with battery grip thrown in and, NO tax. And NO tax on the receipt.
Exactly. I have gone local now.

Blame it - and almost everything else - on the politicians. If you buy something in NY, you have to pay your state a "sales tax," even though the sale did not take place in your state. Ridiculous. Sure, the money goes to the state to use "wisely," but I'd prefer to make my own wise decisions. This is going to hurt both buyers and sellers, but the politicians will have more money to waste.

"...just received..." Try that a month or two from now and see what happens.
If a out of state vendor did not add your State’s sales tax to the purchase, by law you were still required to pay a “Useage” tax on any purchase where the sales tax was not collected. Maryland levied such a tax on me several years ago for a mail order purchase I made in Canada. Evidently, when the item passed through customs, cost information was passed on to the Comptrollers office in MD. It did t take them long to find me.
And I suspect the founders would be enraged if they saw the many ways money is confiscated and redistributed by bloated government. If anyone doesn’t feel that they are paying enough there is probably a line where you can send in some more on your forms...

If you're contemplating a large, online, out-of-state purchase, the longer you delay, the greater the chance you'll pay sales tax.

Pay your fair share and everybody in your vicinity wins! The State of Wisconsin requires any “unpaid tax” to be calculated and ultimately paid when I file my income tax, so I never actually got a break when B&H, Adorama, Amazon, etc., were not accounting for it as they should have been.

if only they actually spent it on that.

If it was going towards the interstructure I won’t have a problem with it, but it’s not. Our state & federal government waste to much of our tax money. Our SS is in jeopardy, and with both the Governors of NY & NJ declaring sanctuary states, they need more money.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who do get a free ride, but it’s not the tax payer.
