I am a born and raised Oregonian. I have considered moving to other parts of the country. There are truly some great places to live here in the US. But the state and family have kept me here. Not complaining, it is a good thing. This past weekend my wife and I grabbed our cameras and we visited some of our favorite places. The first picture was taken from the Washington State side if the Columbia River. Just west of The Bridge Of The Gods. The second picture is on the Willamette River just south of the Oregon City Falls. It was my wife's birthday. I surprised her and rented a houseboat for the weekend. This was our view from the deck. She caught two trout just before I took this picture. The following pictures are from a area called Silver Falls. Due to the dry summer the waterfalls water flow was less than usual. But we still had a great time exploring.

One of my favorite places from my first visit to Oregon is Devil's Lake. It is so beautiful. I was touched that I was walking the old Indian trail.

Yes, there is a lot of Indian history associated with D-Lake as locals call it. For that matter, Oregon has a lot of Indian history. According to Indian folk lore a extremely large fish would occasionally surface much to the dismay of fisherman. Devils Lake's own little Loch Nest monster. :) The northern coast was my second home when I was young. My wife and I visit the coast often. Years ago I owned some property near Neahkahnie Mountain. It is north of Devils Lake. It also has it's stories. Everything from a Indian Chief turning to stone while sitting on a ocean cliff to hidden gold saved from a Spanish shipwreck. Isn't history great?

Fabulous series. Great phots and the fall colors are really showing up. Hope you cleaned the trout your wife caught. After all it was her birthday. Enjoy the fish and mahalo for sharing.

Thank you. At Silver Falls State Park there is a trail named The Trail Of Ten Falls. It is a 8.7 long loop. There are ten waterfalls of which 50% are over 100' high. North Falls the one you saw is 172' high if I am correct. As I mentioned due to a extremely dry summer and so far dry fall water levels are low. On a average year there is twice as much water.

Hi JoAnne,
Thank you for viewing and your comments. Yes, I cleaned and cooked the fish. I even did the dishes. :) Birthdays are a event with us. We plan something fun that we think each other would enjoy. My last birthday she set up a flight for me to fly in a sail plane. We keep life interesting.
