I started out with two softbox continuous lighting kits and was not happy with this setup. I now use two Flashpoint Xplor 600 strobe lights with battery power and the Westcott Apollo Orb modifier that I love. There are other strobe lights that run on a rechargeable battery. You can also go on Youtube and see if there are any DIY lighting kits to start out with before sinking a bunch of money into your studio interests. I'm fairly new to the studio lighting but I love doing my pet photography in the home.

That's a good place to start, as is https://www.facebook.com/groups/speedlightfundamentals/ if you are on facebook. ( Speedlight and Strobe Fundamentals. A beginners guide to learning OCF. is the official name of the group.)

If you visit Tim Payne's website @ https://flashgear.net and scroll down to the files section you can fill out and submit a form and Tim can help you with setting you up. He sells mostly Godex units.

I am seeking recommendations for a home studio lighting kit. I want something that is easy to put together, decent quality and not that expensive.
I am 74 and will use the lighting kit as a hobbyist trying to learn studio photography.

Thanks

There are good inexpensive kits on ebay.
