Is anyone using the new cleanmymac X 2018 program? I have never used any 3rd third party program of this nature out of fear of messing things up and creating a much more major problem for myself. Just updating the operating system is for me a big deal. I am using High Sierra and will most likely move to Mojave soon. I have been pleased with the technical support provided by Apple but should not turn to them when things slow down. It is obvious that I am limited on the computer side of things. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I don't know which MAC clean program that I clicked on, but I do know that a ton of unwanted pop-up ads started at the same time.
Looking forward to recommendations from forum members.
I was recently at the MAC store in Colorado Springs. The technician recommended that no site such as you describe should be used as your MAC does not need it.

I've had a Mac for 25 years. DON'T GO NEAR IT.
Look at reviews on Amazon for "Cleanmymac" and you will see horror stories. I wouldn't risk it.
I have been using Macintosh since 1992. ESET Cyber Security was recommended to me by a local Mac person and I've been using it for about two years. No problems of any kind.
I'd avoid something like that. Just because.

Follow this advice foarhog posted! Apple tech told the same thing.
I've been using CleanMyMac for several years now, and no problems with it. When CleanMyMacX came out, they changed things, and now there is an annual fee for using it. I've found it to be useful. YMMV, as they say.
I have been an Apple user since the Apple 2e. You shouldn't need any protection for your Mac......if you remember to ALWAYS SAY NO if an application asks you if it is OK to install....unless it comes from the Apple site, or is from a known legitimate site. Your Apple is not able to get virus, etc, UNLESS YOU give permission.
That’s what I use it for, just to clean up old junk. It also works well for uninstalling any sodtware you don’t want or bo longer need. I have no anti virus programs.
So, so sorry.... I confused Cleanmymac with another program Mackeeper. On Amazon mackeeper has 90% one out of five stars.
