I just got a Canon sx 50 and the switch for the zoom lens seems like is has a lock . I have to push down then it will let me move it left to right . Can someone let me know if that is the way it works before I send it back .. Thanks

Send it back. One thing not working right on a used camera usually means other things are not working right either.

Don't send it back yet! I might be having a total brain cramp, but I don't think there's a "lock" for the lens. Is it the "framing assist" on the side of the lens area?

Or are you talking about the lever on the top that's by the shutter button?

If you didn't receive a user manual, download one from the internet and review:

Thank you for getting back to me. It's the lever on top when I try to use it I feel a click then it works but hard to turn from left to right

No, that doesn't sound right. If anything, mine would zoom too far too fast Where did you purchase? Is it used/refurbished? Before sending back, I'd call Canon.

You may have purchased from a "participating seller" as I don't see any direct from amazon and I don't see any that are new. Each seller has their own return policy.

My suggestion to call Canon first is to possibly save time and frustration (or not...). For the sx50:
Canon Cameras - PowerShot 1-800-652-2666

Canon doesn't fix SX50's. If there is still an applicable warranty, they will replace it likely with an SX60/SX70. I've dealt with this issue before. SX50's are non existent at Canon and I believe SX60's are now discontinued.

I didn't intend to imply that Canon could fix, merely do a telephone "troubleshoot." Thanks for helping clarify. I rewrote my comments after checking results on amazon.

I think it's obvious from the other posts that your camera is not right. I have had two SX50 cameras and still have one. There is no click when using telephoto. Just nice smooth action.

I agree with Linda. My zoom lever moves too far too fast and is hard to stop where I want it. So, I would say yours is somehow out of whack. Our local fix-it shop won't touch them. They say there are no parts available and really no way to get in to fix stuff without simply breaking the camera.
