This sunrise is only a few steps from my property in Tavernier Key. Tavernier is not far from Islamorada, a very popular fishing town just south of Tavernier.
The image was made with the infamous Zuiko 17mm f2.8 and the Olympus Pen EP-5. Meter reading from the side of the sun using spot meter and a small amount of exposure compensation.
The original image is a RAW file and it was edited with Affinity Photo and the shadows were opened about 1-1/2 stops.
Feel free to critique. I am still learning.

Thanks for this image -- it's just about perfect. I might be tempted, in Lightroom-Develop, to monkey with lightening the shadows a bit more in the foreground; certainly not anywhere else! I'd leave the near boat just about that dark. The sun reflection on the water with the sharp shadow of the occluding structure and tree on the other side of the water, lends emotional value, I think. I'd be careful to leave the foreground cables and their supporting posts essentially black. Come to think of it, Photoshop might be a better post-processor; with PS it might be easier to isolate those posts/cables and beyond, so as to leave them just as they are in this shot. Sorry to be so wordy, but I find this shot fascinating. The mood is wonderful!
Regards... ~jessM in Port St John.
PS: Something about this scene reminds me of a watercolor seascape. Look at the yellow sun color bouncing off those white mid-level clouds and the reddish light shining through the big storm cloud beyond the masts... great stuff!

Jess, thank you for taking the time to comment on this image. Those cables in the foreground are ornamental since there is a small piece of land there which has been made a private park for the neighbors that maintain it. I usually, when shooting sunrises and sunsets leave the foreground in silhouette but this time I wanted to show some of that ornamental figures without removing that part of the image in the shadows. Some will open more those shadows and others will simply leave it dark.

There is a sunburst effect in that sun that I did not bring out completely in this image. It would have made that area of the sky darker. The colors in the sky in early morning light, specially when the sky is clear like this one was adds to the colorful scene. When using any kind of wide angle as you know it is of more impact to the photograph to come closer to the subject. Because trespassing was forbidden I had to shoot from outside the boundaries of the small park taking into account more of the foreground. Perhaps and I say perhaps a 50mm lens would have been a better selection but the 35mm equivalent was all I had with me and for certain reasons I love this lens.

Olympus has better 17mm lenses that go to f1.8 and f1.2, pretty expensive lenses for those who need to shoot in low light. Thank you once again for your interesting comments.

Robert, fishing in this area is good. I regret I had to sell my boat but I did not have anybody to help me anymore. I was usually successful with fishing capturing a variety of species according to the season. To rent a boat with a professional captain is now expensive but a great experience. Those fishing guides in Islamorada know their business. Islamorada suffered with last year hurricane and that area was devastated. I have not been over to check it but I am sure the whole place where the boats were docked has been restored and they are in business once again.

Thank you all for your comments.

Very nice image & great PP. I do the same with my sunrise/sunset photos, spot meter ,chimp & adjust as needed. Later I'll bring up the exposure. Maybe next time I will try exposure bracketing. Have fun.

"Maybe next time I will try exposure bracketing."

Sunsets and sunrises are not difficult to expose. I spot meter from a bright area besides the sun (sun not included) and I open 1 stop of light. The foreground is going to be in shade and if desired it is a matter of opening the shadows just a bit to gain some details in the shadow areas.
Using a low ISO setting the presence of noise is not objectionable. If I find noise a simple pass through Topaz Denoise fix the problem without loosing details. The more you bracket the exposure the more the shadow areas open along with the bright areas which removes the mood of the scene.
