Horned Grebes, I believe

I saw four of these cuties swimming in a recently harvested rice field that is now being flooded. They were not aware of my car so I had the time to get multiple photos. The photos came out much better than my eyes were able to see which is always a nice surprise. What looked like muddy water to me turned out a nice blue.
I think they are juvenile Horned Grebes which is my best guess. Or, otherwise, they are Eared Grebes.

Good shots. Due to the shape and lack of pale tip on the bill as well as not enough white on the cheeks I would say Eared Grebe.

Thanks, Curmudgeon! I initially thought it was Eared Grebes but was swayed by the head and body shape. You very well may be right. As these four stay very close together, I think they are quite young.

Field guides insist in showing the puffy rear end on Eared Grebes and kind of intimate it is somehow diagnostic. It's not. I don't think I have ever seen a Horned Grebe with a puffy rear end but I have seen literally 10s of thousands of Eared Grebes without it.

Erik, that water was only a few inches deep! Glad you liked the photos.
