Very good. Don't feel bad, I have an old two story playhouse that I need to do the same with, a 15 yr. old billy goat lives in the first floor now, and he has spent years beating the crap out of the playhouse, then hurricane Mathew tried to knock it down. I was hoping it would outlive the goat, but will probably have to build him a new "goathouse"!!!!

Thanks
Think he would be satisfied with a cheap pop-up tent?

If I were a bird I'd disappear too, and not come back unless disguised. He / she is a real beauty.

Cooper's Hawk

Nice photos, better than this one I shot about 9 years ago in my back yard. Didn't know what it was until I posted it on another forum and discovered it was a Coopers Hawk. I was able to get to around 15 to 12 feet from him and even had to walk past him. Since he looked like he was feeding on whatever was in his talons, I sort of stayed back.

Not the best exposure and composition but I did get several shots before he decided not to pose for more.

Thanks, the crows and ravens will sometimes come around while all the others have vanished, but they are bigger than this hawk.

Since I have been putting feeders in my yard to attract birds to photograph (a bit over 3 years now) I have ID'd four kinds of hawks in the yard and a possible Peregrine Falcon I didn't get a picture of but the colors etc seemed to be right when I saw it on the swing set and it left instantly before I could get my camera. And though I never saw it in my yard there used to be an owl that lived in a large tree down the block. The tree was cut down by the city when a storm left it leaning and the owl moved away.

What is that white stuff the dead grass is sticking up through? I have vague memories of that stuff from when I was a kid - grew up in Michigan, Kentucky, Illinois and Pennsylvania. Oh Yeah! Snow, every winter I can see it on the mountains 35 miles away, while I am in shorts and a T-shirt in the yard here on the edge of the desert in So. California.

You got it right, snow. In my area of Pennsylvania we often get much more than is appreciated so any time you need a little cooling of in SoCal, we’d be happy to let you have a lot, free. lol

Jerry,
Great narrative...and an even greater shot of the usual suspect! Her ram-rod pose is a serious effort to convince herself that, in spite of all, you haven’t yet seen her....
