Amen to that! Read The *Fine* Manual.
“Oh, but Bill, reading is such HARD WORK!”
Life can involve some hard work. Folks just need to get over it and dig in.
At times I read the manual to answer people who didn't read and asked the question. I really don't mind. And these are on equipment I don't own
Well said - I am sending it back for replacement!

Definitely the right thing to do in this case. Good luck and let us know what happens.
The best advice I ever received was, that large pad of paper placed in the camera’s (or any other item one purchases) box/container is not padding or packaging material, it is the user manual, read it. The majority of those interested in purchasing a DSLR, or other even slightly complicated item, will probably have sufficient understanding to obtain enough knowledge to know where to look in that manual. Personally, I start with the index or table of contents. Just saying.

Good thoughts. Just one thing. I change my battery ‘hot’ all the time. Never give it a thought. Camera doesn’t care. Card doesn’t care. I like the camera on. It goes to sleep if it feels neglected long enough.

Good forum. One thing I will add. Good practices.Put battery in camera with start button off.
Reinitialize the new card completely. When changed battery turn camera off. Test shoot with new card of lens
and check your settings with test shots. Yes read the basic startup protocol. Manuals i breeze through I find
needing more intense understanding of how to use the camera in books or alternates like Sony has
how to use your camera for this and that online.
I think you are right a bunch of guesses on a problem unless it is a simple answer are just a merry-go-around.
Some people just have to fool around until they get it. I was looking at a resource called The Film Look on youtube.
Great suggestions in 10 minute video on video. Suggested checklist for shooting. I have make all the mistakes.
Not turning on the shotgun mike. Starting to shoot. Checking focus. It may look focused but a slight reframe
may put the feature the person out of focus just a bit. Good Luck.

Simple, so many questions can be answered with RTFM.
To whom are you replying. Thanks.

That’s the best answer that I’ve read here on this form
Sometimes people just need a translation from Manual English to normal English. Or to English from the manufacturers terminology. There is where a search on the PDF version may fail. This is also where an index in the manual becomes useful.

I have occasionally wished that I could get a Word or Pages based file of the English Version of a typical manual and, having little else to do, go through and correct/simplify some of these syntax, usage, spelling and other errors in manuals. It would certainly be an interesting exercise.
