Received my Z7 less than two weeks ago with 24-70 F4.0 and adapter for other Nikkor mount lenses. My first test was a low light challenge that was indeed challenging. The venue was a local non-profit called Creative Alliance in Baltimore and they hosted One Beat 2018 which is the seventh year of a volunteer effort under the auspices of the US State Dept and various sponsors where a medium large group of young musicians from across the globe are gathered for a collaboration of new music with a specific theme. This year's theme is patterned after the "Golden Record" recorded in 1977 by Carl Sagan and others to be placed aboard the Voyager spacecraft and is created by 25 musicians from 17 countries. It was an amazing concert including new instruments and vocalizations that were astonishing. Given that it was mostly performed under theater lighting and the fact that I chose a 300mm F4.0 lens to really get in on the action it was a severe challenge of both camera and photographer. I recorded 300 images which I culled to 120 "acceptable" and about 20 of what I will call "keepers" and from my perspective I believe the Z7 mostly passed the test. I'd appreciate your take on the attached half-dozen. Thx Pat
I am not yet shooting in Raw as LR has not upgraded yet for the Z7 Camera Raw so limited in adjustments in Jpeg Fine. Lighting used very strong gels in blue, red, purple, etc. Because I wanted a test of low light capability I set all on auto including ISO, WB and exposure. I posted original so all could see exif data but all pics recorded at F4.0, shutter speeds varied from 1/25 to 1/160 and ISO from 6400 to 12800. Lighting was constantly changing so did not want to deal with correcting WB and ISO on the fly. Pat
Thanks for the postings. They reassure me, should I want to "graduate" to a Z7. Was a bit surprised LR can't accept Z7 raw, though.
I am told it is temporary and Nikon did not release full specs to third party hardware or software vendors which is not uncommon so there is a lot of scrambling to get up to speed. Hear LR should have an update in a few weeks.
