Thank You rowedean and I did not know that. Did see where huge slabs of quarried marble was being stored along the road.

No, had intended to go to the Mill for that iconic shot. However, we followed huge lines of traffic into Marble that continued on up the road to Crystal. Our mistake was making this part of our trip on a Sunday when masses of leaf peepers and 4x4's were out enjoying a nice fall day. Maybe next time if it is still standing...how is the road going up?
Thank You rowedean and I did not know that. Did s... (show quote)

The road is difficult. I have never driven it - nor will I ever. Went up twice with jeep rental tours. If you have a high clearance/4 wheel vehicle and not faint of heart it can be done. Right there in Marble there are companies where you can take jeep tours. If I remember correctly not real expensive. It is a difficult morning shot because the sun is right in you face. PM better, but lots of glare off the water.

And, you are absolutely correct - go during the week!!!! Everyone from the front range comes up leaf peeping.

Crystal Mill is probably the single most photographed place in Colorado. That said, it is worth the drive if you have 4wd. And also the town of Crystal beyond.

This is a popular six-mile scenic drive into the small hamlet of Marble. Beautiful white marble is quarried near this location and is for sale in almost any amount desired. We took this side trip on a Sunday as did most of the world's population! On the drive in, a small black bear crossed the road in front of us and was gone before I could get to my camera. A few photos to show the beauty of the area.

Beautiful area. Very well done!

Re: #2 (down onto road) may I ask FF or Crop?, the lens?, F stop used?, and the focal length used for the image please?.

I'm trying to learn to improve my choices before I have left a location.

Thanks clickety. BTW, if you have an EXIF viewer you can see my shot info when on the download. I use a Panasonic DC-G9 micro four-thirds camera...my aperture for this photo was f5.0. Lens used was an Olympus 12-100mm f4.0. Settings were...f5-14mm (equivalent to FF28mm)-1/2500-ISO200. Hope this answers your questions.

Thank you for the information.
Unfortunately I use my phone on this site so no access to a viewer.

I've been there several times, not in the last 30 years though, is the old mill still standing?? That was once the most photographed in Colorado!
