Stayed up past midnight to watch the CUBBIES self destruct and they did not disappoint. The CUBS are the reincarnation of the '85 BEARS....lots of hype and expectations of multiple championships. Way too much CUBS and BEARS Kool-Aid in Chi-town these days. Lived in the area all my life. CUBS fans especially are lemmings!
As a White Sox fan since the early 50's (I know, don't start on me, it's bad enough already), I don't have a lot of sympathy for the Cubs - but I don't hate them, and wish they'd done better.
The Cubs were the lowest of the low for a VERY long time, and deserve a little sunshine.
But it's a looooong season now, I think they just wore out.
You're right, Chicago went over the edge with the Cubs, orders of magnitude more than it did when the Sox won it in 2005.
It's not so much the Cubs as Cubs fans that disappoint me - they're pretty poor sports, and they hate the White Sox beyond reason.
Your disappointment aside.....you sound like a "fair weather" fan.
If they're winning, you love them.
If they're not winning, you hate them.
Go Royals.
As a lifetime White Sox fan, I am a realist, don't get too high, don't get too low; unlike most CUBS fan who overdose on CUBS Kool Aid like it's holy water. I have little use from CUBS fans. At my job I try hard to ignore CUBS fans. The media in this town acts like there is only one major league team in Chicago and the south side team is minor league. Same with BEARS fans, way too much Kool Aid drinking. BEARS fans are almost as bad as PACKERS fans who are football constipated 365 days of the year; I should know, I worked for a company on the NW side of Milwaukee for 6 years; PACKERS fans are insufferable.
One of the best quotes was: "They wouldn't be the Cubs if they didn't break your heart."
Cubs fan at Wriggler Field - no comment required........

Orioles fan. Nuf said.
Sorry, no. An Orioles fan would have a mask on...
And except for the Eagles lately, I always thought Philly teams were the most heartbreaking.
