I have been seeing adds fro a program called Aurora HDR they are coming out with a new 2019 version. Have any of you used this? Is it easy to use and does it work alone or do I need photoshop or something else to make it work?

I use a Mac and it can be used as a stand alone or as a plug in on Photos. I don't know how it works on Windows to with other photo editing programs.

I have the 2018 version and it works fine as a stand alone for combining and processing bracketed photos. It was designed for a Mac and probably works better on this platform than a PC based one. It does not require Photoshop although it does not have all of the bells and whistles that other processing programs have. You may want to consider also getting its sister program, Luminar, to complete your post processing software. Check out Jim Nix's YouTube channel he has a lot of free, instructive videos on Aurora HDR and Luminar.

Might you be referring to AURORA developed by a company now known as Skylum?

The 2019 version available tomorrow, Oct 4th, is actually a very complete stand alone program which not only includes all the expected HDR components, but now also includes layers and masking capabilities. I've used it since it came out and many of my images are run through it for effects. Not at all referring to typical HDR 'grunge' effects, but primarily expanding perceived dynamic range.

Aurora works fine as a stand alone or a plug in. I use it as a plug in for Affinity. It does a great job. It will apply HDR to a single exposure or create an HDR from multiple bracketed shots. There are many presets but also a vast array of individual adjustments so you can create very natural shots to suit your own vision. I use the PC version.

Strange question here, I'm sure. My question: Is it available for sale, so that we receive a disc with the program on it?

I don't believe so, I think the only option is to download it online.

The majority, if not all, of the software programs today are simply downloaded. I ran across a program package in drawer yesterday and thought I should probably keep it simply to have an example of how we "used to do it." The Mac computers I have don't even have CD slots and have not had them for some time. Downloading is easy and convenient.

Download it, and then either back it up onto an external hard drive or back it up by storing on your own DVD/CD disk for future re-installation.

Thank you via and crushr. My iMac has no slot for a disc, but I purchased an ASUS external disc drive. I also have an external WD Passport. What I don't have is the knowledge of taking a download and either copying it to a blank DVD or to the Passport. My preference would be to make a copy on a DVD, but I don't know how. Sad, isn't it? (And I teach college physics, but totally lack this kind of computer knowledge.)

I have used Aurora 2018 for some time now. Today (Oct/04 2018) is the first day of commercial availability. I had previously pre ordered Aurora 2019 as an update directly from Skylum, so was able to get it (via download) early this AM. From a brief perusal, 2019 appears to be much improved in user interface and feature list but the HDR effect (at least on my 5 shot by 1 stop/shot bracket) seemed to have too much hdr effect and I haven't yet found a way to tone down the effect. I'm sure it's there, I'll just have to find it!
