Now that I need one, I cannot locate on line because I cannot remember what they're called. I've seen velcro attached fabric platforms that rest on a tripod's legs to provide a foldable platform to hold stuff when shooting.

Any links?

I can't remember what they are called either but I recently saw one on Manfrotto's web site--probably listed as a tripod accessory.

Edit: It would be pretty easy to custom make something like that.
Oops, this was supposed to have been an edit to my first post.

This one is vinyl impregnated cloth with leather buckles. You could easily adapt them to attach with Velcro.

An Amazon search for 'tripod shelf' gave 300+ hits. Good luck

Or a photographer's vest. Setting that up and putting stuff on it doesn't appeal to me. Where would all that stuff be before you put it on that shelf?

I ordered one from B&H, which is on its way. OBTW, while on most shoots I have on my Domke PhotoTog Vest, having the platform underneath the tripod apex simplifies a lot of functions. Someplace to rest the remote, lens caps, etc. Things get lost in the photo vest.

And, the Black Rapid Tripod Jacket is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overkill.

But, thanks for everybody's help. I'll post something in a few weeks when I return from the High Sierras.

There called a "stone bag." I bought this one from Amazon and it works great to set anything while your shooting. I always set my camera bag in it and it is semi dished so items won’t roll off.

There - a location (over there) and other uses. http://partofspeech.org/what-part-of-speech-is-there/
Their - belonging to them.
They're - They are. (plural)

I hire a valet to hold things for me.

OK. I wish I could afford to hire a valet to hold things for me.

Or a caddie.

Or talk my wife into .... no forget that. It would be too expensive and probably involve jewelry.

Heck, if she sees this post, it will probably involve jewelry.
