The lens used (24-120 AF Nikkor) has the distance scale, but does not have distance-to-aperture markings that would allow for gauging hyperfocal distance setting by looking at the lens. Instead, I set aperture at f/14 and manually focused using depth-of-field preview to see where everything was acceptably sharp and in focus (with foreground taking precedence). Same concept as hyperfocal setting, but done differently.
