Just laid down 600.00 canadian for a deposit for the new eos r full frame mirroless camera. Should be here in 10 days they say! I sold my 5dMk III on ebay and feel like a kid waiting for christmas to arrive. Does anyone have any opinions on this camera?

Congratulations.
I don't have an opinion on the camera, but looking forward to yours once you use it.

Having experienced only mild curiosity through the long rumor saturated run-up to Canon's official announcement, I was surprised by my own strongly positive reaction to the specs, the photos and the early demonstrations of the new camera. That reaction may, in part, be due to the very familiar look of the thing. The claimed ability to seamlessly utilize one's existing collection of EF and EF-S lenses is a major positive. The potential to use one circular polarizer (CP) and one neutral density (ND) filter with all those lenses via installation in the EF to R adaptor is a second interesting feature. The inclusion of Canon's fully articulated 'flippy screen' is a definite improvement over the 5D series cameras' fixed screens.

Many have expressed disappointment that the EOS R does not offer in body image stabilization (IBIS). Not being an optics-engineer, I can't really assess the validity of the argument recently floated that Canon consider the optimization of lens specific image stabilization (IS) mechanisms to be superior to a one-size-fits-all generalized IBIS on the sensor.

Being only an infrequent video shooter, the EOS R's limited-ability 4K video system is not significant to me. That said, I'll not be buying an EOS R soon - maybe the second or third iteration will coincide with a flare-up of Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS).

I can only wait!
Going on a wildlife shoot in the Interior of B.C. to an old Gold Mining town called Likely with real ghost towns and ghosts. Lots of Moose, Deer and black and grizzly bears in the area. I have Three canadian magazines lining up for the article and photos. So the new camera will get a good work out! Not interested in the video capabilities. so that doesn't bother me. I don't do sports so the ibis is not too important. All my glass has is. As for the single sd slot this argument is a non starter considering the speed and size of the new sd cards.

I think it's a very good "mirrorless" camera.

Spec wise looks to be a good solid performer and a real step up from your old 5D III.
Nice thing is if you got the control ring converter is ALL your Canon lenses will function at 100% with the R enhancements taking them beyond 100%.
Pretty sweet.
Let us know how you like it.

Here are some excellent hands on in the real world reviews of the R.

My first foray into "mirrorless" was when Canon introduced the "M" series with an APS-C, 18mp sensor, fixed viewing screen and a bad review from most sources. That old camera still has a favored spot in my camera bag although my present 'go-to' is the M3. I've been patiently waiting for Canon to break out and produce a worthwhile full frame mirrorless and it looks like the 'R' may be that first step. I'll play the wait-and-see game for a while then when they introduce the next iteration (and the price comes down), I'll probably make the jump, in the meantime, I'll just continue to salivate and follow the results of those who have gone forward.... That's a loaded question since it's just been released. That being said I have read some good things about it on DPreview and other sites and seen some really good sample shots on these sites. The new glass is supposed to be very high quality and expensive as to be expected. I really love the EF adapters equipped for filters behind the lens instead of in front. I can't wait to hear your first impressions and see some shots.

I've laid my hands on one recently at a Canon product release thing at the Canon center here in Orange County. I really like it and about the only 2 complaints I have is that it only has one card slot and that it doesn't have all the focus menu options like the Case 1, Case 2 etc.

It also has 'eye' detection as opposed to 'face' detection that is kind of hit or miss. In other words, it worked great a few times, when they were demoing it and then it didn't. Sharp sometimes, and then not so sharp other times.
