The problem with a cable strap is you can get hurt if the thief tries to grab and run...with you attached to the thief by the neck.
Yes, well be glad that you are a man and have never been groped or had attempted theft. I have been all over the world as a Marine and a photographer and have had numerous attempts. That you would belittle someone because they have stated and have provided several police reported incidences proves you are the asshole. I joined this group as a fellow photographer. Thanks to your being such a misogynist and proving why I always carry my monopod for protection, I will leave this group and leave you to your ego.

I've wondered about that too. Anybody else have any thoughts on this?
I bought a harness for binoculars at Wal-Mart in the outdoors section of the store. With the camera attached to that, it not only hangs around my neck but is tethered around my back, too. It was quite cheap and works well. And wearing an outer shirt or jacket on top of it, I think it is quite secure. It also takes the strain off my neck if I'm wearing the camera all day. Hope this helps.

SGT Gator, don't let someone showing their ignorance bother you. You had to put up with the same thing in the military. There are idiots everywhere. You just have to ignore them. I missed whatever it was that upset you but it ain't no big thang. I would have just thought, "what an idiot!" and dismissed it.

Just returned from 16 days traveling throughout middle areas of Italy, from the Amalfi Coast, Umbria, Tuscany, Florence, Venice and Rome. Flew, trained, walked and drove, all the time with 25 lbs of camera equipment on my shoulder or around my neck. Never had a problem, did not lose a single item, despite almost daily crowd situations. Did gain 7 pounds though!
