I usually prefer a border but in this photo a border would stop the movement of the storm, without the border the storm looks like it's is come right at you! Great photo!
No border ... definitely.
Let the viewers eyes and brain determine for themselves where a shot ends, not a border.
Personal preference, no border. It is more dynamic and doesn't look like snapshots of yesteryear.

My preference is no border, however you need to meet whatever the club requires for their competition. I like your photo. Hope it is a winner.

My preference is with the border. Why? To my eye the border adds another dimension to the image which leads you into the image, creating a 3D effect. Artists do it all the time. Either way, NICE!! Stan
I personally prefer borderless pictures but JUDGING is a "can of worms". I found if you use the same judges each time, people will adjust to the judges predigests (we all have them) if you change the judges each time you get a changing predigests. Damed if you do and dammed if you don't.
I just take pictures my way and listen to the comments on the picture.
The fact that club members in general frown on borders should, I think, tell you not to use them.

I submitting three B&W digital photos for a competition with my photography club. One photo I am considering entering is a landscape and I am considering submitting the photo with an image border. Club members in general frown on adding borders saying it is a distraction and does not add anything to the photo. I googled this subject and got mixed comments. Most people like adding a simple border saying it finishes off the photo. Others dont because it can be a distraction. I have added a border to some photos for competition in the past and got criticized for doing so. How do you know when to add a border or not? Would appreciate comments from the UHH forum.

I sometimes like a border. Here one in black or gray would look better than white. Love the picture.
Good shots Tim. I prefer borderless but maybe with a slight vignette.
I am a non-border person, but I will add something else. I am a real fan of black and white images and I live close to one of Clyde Butcher's galleries (lucky me). If you look at how he shows his work online, unless it is a framed piece, it is shown with no borders. Also, there is a purity of just showing the image, with no distractions. At least that is my take. Good luck with your competition.
The two versions appear to be processed slightly different other than the border. The one with the border appears to be darker on my screen.
I like the one with no border.
