How someone figured this out------? you'll probably need a calculator

Take the first three numbers of you're phone number-- not the area code
Multiply by 80
Add 1
Multiply by 250
Add the last 4 numbers of you're phone number
Add them AGAIN
Subtract 250
Divide by 2

Neat eh, just think some one figured that out.

x=first 3 digits of your (7 digit) phone number
y=last 4 digits of your phone number

The first 6 instructions gives you 250(80x+1)+2y
which can be written 2000x + 250 +2y
subtract 250 gives you 2000x + 2y
divide by 2 gives you 1000x + y

80*250=20000

Just what is the supposed result? I got a figure that made no sense to me.

The result should be your phone number without the area code.

If you do your high school math correctly, the result will be your own phone number as x,xxx, xxx.

That’s pretty neat, and I did it w/o a calculator.

Thanks DF for saving me the trouble of writing the equation. 5 0r 10 minutes saved. My grandkids will get a kick out of this.

If you carry out the math using ABC-DEFG, you will discover the end result is ABC0000+DEFG.
